Maybe this post needs to be in the Yamaha section but thought I would give this a try first. I like the looks of and what I hear about the Vampire TSL's, but I don't like the fact that in order to get 27" all around I have to get 12's in the front. Can anybody tell me the pro's and con's of having 12" tires on the fron of my grizz ie. will it break anything.. hard to turn... etc??

Bump...

Yes it will be harder to turn, and yes it will be more ear and tear up front, but it cost to play. The benefit of 12s up front are great, when i put 12s upfront on the foreman it made a big differnce in the mud. !2s up front [sm=1022.gif]

More tire is always going to give you more traction.  Consequently, more traction is always going to equal more stress as well.

27x12 Vampires are the best all around mud tires, imo.

Guys, thanks for the replies. J_Fred, I am glad you replied, you seem to very knowledgeable about the Vampires. One more question though, I do ride trails probably 80% of the time, will this setup be bad for my type of riding. Keep in mind I do not have EPS on my grizz. Thanks again.

J_Fred -> RE: VAMPS (7/24/2008 12:32:26 PM)

As much as I enjoy Vampires, they are too much of a Pure mud tire for more than 50% trials.  They ride smoother than any other mud tire, imo, and 12's on front are nowhere near as hard to steer as some make it out to be.

If 80% trail is in your mind, then a Vampire might not be the best choice.  Zillas, Mudlites, MSTs, or even Bighorns might be a more suitable tread for your situations.

12s up front wasnt that bad to turn and mudded really great. (26" vamps) mine trail ride really good but if i was doing that much trail riding i would opt for another tire like the MSTs all wides, or the swampwitches they are very hard to beat. i had them and really liked them but i am like 80% mud, so it was hurting a little. vamps mud better, but i really dont think that they would outlast some swampwitches or MSTs.
a little FYI- deestone got with highlifter to make their swampwitch better and they did. imo they are close but i believe the MSTs are the better tire.

good luck and let us know whats your choice.

Sounds like I have some thinking to do because I was under the impression the Vamps were trail worthy but now with all this great information I may be changing my mind. I have looked at the MST's but the price seemed a bit high especially after adding the shipping.

The Vamps are trail worthy around the 60/40 mud/trail mark. And are leaps and bounds ahead of similar-performing mud tires (Backs, Laws).  But not for trail exclusively.

check into the Deestone Swampwitch.. almost exact same tire as the MST give or take a few grey areas in differences. im sure someone can point them out for you!
