When i get in water just over the floorboards it spits and sputters and then turns off,the minute I get out the water it is running perfect,like nothing happened,can yall tell me what is going on here,and how to fix it??

Steam is getting sucked into the intake.
Only solutions are to either snorkel it or stay out of the water.

No way,its never done that before!!!Alright,if this is the problem,how can I solve it WITHOUT snorkeling it?

Not sure.
My buddies Foreman was doing the same thing...and the snorkel fixed it.
How about a stealth snorkel up under the pod?

Alright,how do I do that?Does someone have pics of how they did a hidden snorkel,and what they used?

A hidden snorkel should be easier than an exposed one...because you don't have to cut the fender,and you don't have to switch the pipe from flex to rigid.
Worst thing you would probably have to do is trim a little off of the bottom side of the pod to make room for the flex to be shoved up in there.

under the plastic...around the lower right side of the gas tank...then flex it up under the pod.

Yep!!! Mine was doing the same thing. I did not want to snorkle it either but sure enough that fixed it.  Man you have no Idea how long I looked at other thing before giving in to the snorkle. No looking back now.

blue 1 1/2" spa hose...available at Lowe's...and whatever PVC fittings you need to convert it to the 2" inlet of the airbox.

Or...if you decide to run a regular snorkel...and want to go the easy way out...Triangle ATV sells a really nice kit specific to your bike.

I agree completely...but some people woud rather write a check...than do a little fab work of thier own.
I enjoyed designing/installing my snorkel.

my 300 die(d) when I hit water and I had a snorkel... just thinkin it could be a sparkplug boot problem?

Maybe it one of the vent lines from the carb. First time I heard of that whole steam stuff, I dont belive steam could do that.

It's common on the Rincon for the steam to kill the engine when you get in water that's a little deep.
And it happened repeatedly to my buddies Foreman.The only change we made was the snorkel...and it solved the problem.

He had already extended all the vents...before we snorkeled it...and it was still stalling when he hit water nore than about 6" above the floorboard.

As for morning fog...there's a little difference between a foggy morning and an instant shot of heavy steam right in the intake.

But I'm not going to argue with you about it.You have more posts than I do and have been a member here longer.
So apparently I don't know what I'm talking about.You're right...I'm wrong.

take a skrew and put in the bottom of the hose of the drain to the carb and block it off. if that dont work then SNORKLE that thing and go deep.[sm=fun_08.gif]

Im not trying to argue with you, it just dosn't make sence that a bike will die from a little bit of steam. Your probably right because I dont own a rincon and its probably happened to you.

Sorry I snapped...I'm tired and should really go to sleep.
Truthfully...with the location of the factory intake on a Rincon(Foreman is in the same place),coupled with the shape of the seat,water hitting the hot engine actually sends quite a bit of steam directly into the intake.

Thats just messed up, dieing in knee deep water. Never had the problem on my rancher, that thing went to about rack deep and then it die. But then its rebuild time, so I would rather the bike die in knee deep water then waist deep.

Well...I fixed the problem on mine...now submerging the racks isn't an issue.

i wouldn't put a screw in the drain hose.  it's there for a reason.  steep grades and wheelies, it's there to let excess fuel out

Yeah...but what it does drain is usually just a drop or 2 at a time.
I have a golf tee stuck up in mine,and just check it after each ride.
The most I've ever had come out when I remove the tee is only enough to fill the tube about 1/4".
In my opinion...plugging it is a good idea...but with somethign that's easily removeable.

This sounds exactly like what is happening to my Rancher ( 2006 )..everytime I hit water, even if it's 8" deep, over 5 miles an hour it will cut out, spit and spudder and loose power until everything dries off it seems..This time though it is continuing to cut out even after it dried out..so I'm just trying to think of the possibilities..[:-]
