and comparable weight to the Outty.

You might want to check the specs again. The Outys dry weight is only 663#s vs the Sportsman 850s 784#s. 121 pounds is a lot, its almost the weight of a passenger.

I just noticed the fuel tanks is low and up front looks to be under the front rack. I would add that to my plus catagory, everyone else has them in the back, this makes more sense to use the weight of the fuel your carring to help keeo the nose grounded on steep techincal trails. I like that feature a lot.

The only drawback I see is the weight. At about 640 lbs and 67 hp, the Outy 800R has an advantage over the 784 lbs and 70 hp of the XP. Unless the new tranny has a substantial efficiency increase over the old style, the Outy will take it. It's probably a great mudder, I doubt we'll see Daryl Rath racing it in GNCC or the new Quad Terrain series. Also, according to the specs, there's no difference in weight between the non-EPS and the EPS, there is a difference in gas tank sizes though. I wonder, w/ the rolled IRS on the back, is this chassis just a re-designed X2? IMO,the chassis should have been developed off of the Outlaw IRS chassis, I think it would have been alot lighter.

If anyone missed it there is an e-brochure on the Polaris site as well, you can see pics of some of the Pure Polaris accessory's. http://www.polarisindustries.com/en-us/ATV/2009/Pages/e-catalog.aspx

Like the PIIA lights in the front Brushguard, not sure like the shape of the brushguard itself, I will need to one from other angles to really tell. They do have rack extension, and other items shown.

if you look at the photo gallery, check out the rack extenders, etc., polaris as usual planned the accessories well

even at the higher weight, the old 800 was close to the outty in acceleration, but not top end, so should be interesting now, but each has their own mission/use.....

I may have to add the 850 to the stable

Can Am announced weights are somewhat creative. Real weights with full tanks are Can Am Outty 800 xt(with winch) 807 lbs and SP 800 DL (no winch) 810 lbs. Not much difference there. Thundercat is lightest 777 lbs.

I like the looks of the new sportsman. I like everthing about it except they put that honda exhaust on it. I think Polaris did a great job with their lineup and it is a huge lineup. Somthing for everyone.

Well i think its awesome!!!  The front is odd looking but i like the rest of it! It looks like they are keeping the "old" sportsman and this new sportsman, which is called a sportsman XP...extreme performance.Kinda like the ranger and ranger RZR...Im no expert but thats what i gather from the polaris site....I could be wrong. I bet that thing will smoke some canned ham! I read that it also has a new "roller cluch" whatever that  means for faster throdle responce. If I had 9grand i would buy one. When will they hit the dealers?

I think they look pretty sweet. cc1999 you should give up on your 14" wheel gripe. I have 14s and love them. ride is good, plenty of sidewall, takes alot of tire roll away which I thing is a good safety addition to how fast these things are getting. I think all the things they changed to require the rims will outweight your concerns. mak I bet Daryl Rath will be on one. To the outy guys, I am pretty sure a stock outy will shut off at 75. And I am willing to bet with what polaris has built for power in the past, on a set distance race, like say 1000ft. The new 850 will beat an outy. I have a 700 and can take one till 40, yes mine is modded so was the outy. Have fun and be safe

With different clutching I believe they can be modded to pretty much hit 80.  Personally that's a bit speedy for me.

The Can-am weight listed on there site is for a non XT pkg. The Xt pkg weighs about 80 pounds. Bumpers and winch weigh 42 pounds the cast rims and 6 ply tires mkae up the rest of the weight increase over the standard model.

Apples to apples would be Non Xt model to non ESP model, to the Tcat's only model.

I looked through the whole site and the brochure....did anyone see anything about warranty? With everything 99% new, I would need a good warranty.

Dealers will place their orders at the show, delivery within weeks, most likely.  I'd be surprized if these aren't at the dealers before the end of August.

Once you ride it, you'll understand why.  no bump steer, better handling, better riding.

I am very curious to see exactly how the clutch is set up.

This bike is a huge step in the right direction for Polaris, especially for us guys mud racing. The gas tank in front will be great to keep the flotation down. 14" wheels will be a problem unless you are running a big lift.
