Still depends on riding style.  The ride quality of this machine will be far above the old Polaris.

I hear ya cc1999. It's nice to have more tire for air-down in the snow here. What do ya think of the exhaust?

looks like it might be a pain in the rear to get pipes on it.

From the looks of the rear suspension, there is no hope for ever getitng 12's back on this thing, that just plain sucks. Did you go throught the gallery, if so notice the rims in relationship to the terrain surface and the how close the dirt is up on the sidewalls, in relation to the rims. Those rims are going to get trashed in the rocks on the first ride. Does maxis offer bighorns in 27 inch for 14 inch rims??? That would be a must do mod for me, since 12s are out of the question by the looks of things.

I have bighorns and I know how good they are. These new tires look just as good if not better (dare I say), as long as they are 6 ply.

8's and 10's kinda suck though..........

It's gonna take a lot of brackets to hook up dual cans for an aftermarket exhaust.
Some 12" rims will fit with spacers.

I don't know who they have designing the looks of them now, but that person should beaten.  They did everything right on the rangers and then changed the hood to look like some chinese knock off.  The atv's look horrible as well.  I have been a loyal Polaris guy since we bought our first one in mid 90's, but I'll be switching to can-am on the next one.  Total dissappointment.

At already almost 48" wide, even with aftermarket 12" wheels it will be too wide for my trails. I would have to keep it stock.

The upper rear a-arms sure look like they are running pretty close to the inner bell on the OEM 14s in those pics.

How big a spaceer are we palking about, to get 12 on there?

I thought I saw where someone said they moved the fuel tank, if so, I bet that nixes routing them out one per side like the current models do.

No way would I buy the OOutlaner now. Espcially for the price the new Sportsman has it ALL. EPS and with an 850 it would be just as fast if not faster than the Outlander as the weights are lies also. It weighs well over 700lbs also. This looks to be the most inovative feature laden quad on the market. Plus no frame worries from the get go or leaky CVT and improved tranny also. Can you still get the rack extensions to stick up around the sides? Miss those and if it rides even smoother than the old ones the will be the best in that department also.

I think your minus column is a matter of opinion...

If it were a V-twin, I wouldn't even be interested in it at all. I hate V-twins. They make great power but they can't stand to accidently ingest a little water now and then. Typically, with a V-twin, one sink/drowning out and it's all over but the crying and paying up for a rebuild. The parallel twins and single cylinders can tolerate it a few times before they give up. Don't get me wrong, water is not good in any engine, but the parallels are more forgiving in case you "fudge" up.

why is not being a v-twin a negative?  if it puts out the power we want, why do you care how it does it?

I agree with cc1999, except for the looks. I think it is the best one yet.

Not sure if it will be faster than the new Outty, but it won't matter to me. If comparable, I will choose Polaris every time. That being said, it has been a long time waiting.

Only Minues I see is if you don't like the styling. The 14inchers may turn out to be a plus. I ain't knocking it till I try it. They say they provide less feedback and an even better ride. Plus they look pimp. Going over the ruff stuff they may be even better man. Plus the eps is supposed to be better than Yami's. This is the closest thing out to a complete package all around asepcially for someone who doesn' t all ready have a quad.

This machine will make me seriously consider getting rid of my Grizzly for one.  I have to admit I'm very curious how it stands up to Can-Am and AC in a flat out race (yes I'm a power junkie).  I am a little dissappointed in the weight, as it's nice to be able to easily get my Grizzly out of stuff since it's pretty light (relatively).  I do know that my dad's sp800 rides much smoother than my Grizz, probably due to the higher weight, so it's a tradeoff I guess.

There is no way, less side wall and more rim would = a smoother ride. A tire will flex, a rim won't.  As mentioned before those nice looking rims are very exposed. A ride on some rocky trails will chew those rims up, no doubt in mind what will happen there.

It was all a matter of opinion. Just calling it like I see it. I might buy one at some point, because I do like most of what I am seeing.

As to the v vs the pararalelle twin, the Vs are smoother, and are typically more responsive, and as was mentioned have a better sound. Its no deal breaker, I have had 2 800 Popos to date, 3 if count the RZR I had. I am not realy disapointed in the motor at all. I just preffer a V-twin, thats all. The looks are no deal braker either. The 14s are my biggest complaint by far, and I am not sure how I would go about dealing with that yet.

All I can say is the power steering is amazing compared to any of the competition. We don't cover ATV's at UTV Off-Road Magazine, but I got to ride them all in comparison to others and it's no comparison.

Hopefully the brakes aren't too big that you can't put 12" wheels on it.

The 650 is higher HP, more compression, and lighter weight than the 800. This 850 has higher HP, more compression, and comparable weight to the Outty.

I'm betting it will not be as fast as the Outty simply because it's not a V-twin. V-twins make more power. Just like a 650 V-twin Brute will out run my 800 Popo any day of the week just because it's a V-twin.

What? I fail to see how having the cyl. at a v angle provides an inherent power advantage over a parrallel twin. Does it have something to do with intake tract or exhaust pulses?

I think the reason for an 650 v over a 760 p, would more to do with weight, better cyl head design (polaris is 2 valve/cyl, kawasaki is 4 valve/ cyl.) and other factors, not cylinder placement.

Hey guys,

At midnight tonight, UTV Off-Road Magazine is going to have all the details of the 2009 Polaris models on our website: http://www.utvoffroadmag.com

The top item in the News & Event section will be our 20 page article you can read right online. It will include details of all UTV/SxS models including the latest and newest accessories, as well.

The second item in the News & Events section will be the videos of their product line. This will initially include a full walk-around specifications video and an exciting action video. In short time we'll have some additional videos up of all the accessories they had on display in addition to the rest of the UTV/SxSs.

If you have unanswered questions after reading the article and seeing the videos, we'll be more than happy to answer them if we know the answer. We got to spend 2 days with them, so there's probably some things we missed but will cover in future issues once we get some more time to spend with the machines.
