My bike was sitting up about 2mths while I had sold my tires.
Now I think its smoking oil but havent seen the oil level dropping.
Water level is fine.
It smokes more with throttle & some times it worse all of a sudden.
I changed the oil but with no change.
The oil level is in range on the dip stick (without screwing in)
I only have 60ish hours on her.
I havent drowned it out but have left the fuel on while towing 1 time & filled the cylinder full of gas. Ive rode it alot after that with no smoking though.
Im hoping to ride again soon in hopes it clears up or see if my fluids drop, if not Im taking it in for warranty.
ANY IDEAS OR ADVICE
(Maybe oil level to high anyway, valve seals, rings)(I still not sure but the smokes smells alittle gassy but the smoke isnt black)

i believe you should be checking the oil with the dip stick screwed in, can someone back me up on that? If thats the case, you may be overfull which can cause smoking.

Check the oil with the dipstick NOT screwed in. You will get a false reading if you screw it in. You've probably just got a seal seeping a bit. After you ride it a while, it should clear itself up. Monitor your oil level and make sure you are not losing too much.

I had a push mower that used to smoke like that. I would only use it about once a month for some trim work and it would smoke like a freight train for a few minutes and then clear up and run fine.

If it is still under warranty, take it back and have them look at it.

Yea I rode it some this afternoon & at idle its sometimes smokes but when you rev it, it smokes alot. Im gonna try to take it this week. I have black oily residue on the outlet of my muffler.

Well after I got my bike clean & ready to load up for the trip to the dealer tomarrow. I decided to check the oil again & now its milky so Im guessing head gasket.

mine smoked cuz i schanged it with oil that wasn't yamalube, but quit after riding it. and you chk it without it screwed in. fyi

if you don't use yamalube, it will smoke a bit. mine did. but quit after riding a while

I was having a issue like this as well, i figured it to be a few little things that caused it, first off it was the first and only time i tried a different oil other than yamalube, oil was so light in color and weight when i checked it ( not screwed in) it looked like it was all good. as it turns out i was just a touch over the line, caused the oil to blow by the valve seal.

a\i also think i had a bit of a sticky valve..... i would change oil and filter again and be very carfull what oil you use and how full you get it, mine cleared up perfect after that..

Well I’m still waiting for my bike to be returned after I took it to the dealer inwhich I had bought it. I ended up having to contact Yamaha after 3wks due to the service department hadn’t touched my bike & was helpful in getting the ball rolling (hopefully) Its been 5wks today.
I called Wednesday to see what they found & I was told that it had normal wear & the water came from external areas cause the radiator was still full. (That hit me wrong as I quickly responded) I asked “so your saying that I had got the water in the engine” & he responded “that wasn’t what I meant, just that the water came from external areas” (I quickly responded) “ so you done an oil analysis (in which I stopped due to I was getting mad & did remember that warranty was still covering it) I asked when he thought it would be completed & he said 3 days, we will see.

That dumba$$ didn’t know $hit, any small amount of water in that small amount of oil will make the oil look milky. (I also had changed the oil during troubleshooting the week before myself & had not been in any water)
I just hope it doesn’t do it again. I’m going to ask for a parts list of the items replaced to make sure they replaced the bearings along with the sleeve & rings.

They should have changed the oil, run it till water/antifreeze milk showed in the oil & then done an oil analysis if they still didn’t believe the water came from the radiator.

Well I got her back finally & it sounds alot different (better) It has a choppy erratic idle. I hope it supposed to sound this way. Looks like it has a larger piston. So what does that make my engine now, a 422?

Well I found my choke was sticking making it idle that way & I also found a O-ring was hanging out that was supposed to seal the side of the carb that the idle cable ran into.
After I got the choke unstuck, I had to lower my idle down due to the idle was set with the choke hung up.
I have no faith in these people.
Maybe I will get chance to ride it soon

Always check with oil with the dip stick in. If you measure the amount of oil you put i that is required (2.3L I think) that is to the top of dipstick all the way in. You will over fill if not and cause your machine to have oil blow by and smoking.
