strub4x4 -> Audiopipe Thread (7/9/2008 10:14:16 PM)

What exactly is needed in building an audiopipe?  Obviously speakers, amp, and some sort of enclosure.. but what else do you need to actually make it sound good?

I will be doing this project tomorrow and my "grocery" list if you will is going to consist of the following:
2.5ft of 6" PVC pipe
2 90* PVC Ends
1 Autozone Amp
1 Power Wire [Autozone]
1 RCA Male -> Speaker Jack Male [Radioshack]
2 Marine 6.5" Speakers
12 Bud Lights
3 Bratwursts
1 Girl In Bikini Washing Bike While I Build

Anything else I should be needing?

strub4x4 -> RE: Audiopipe Thread (7/10/2008 6:10:03 PM)

How is everyone mounting the speakers in the PVC ends?  My speaker is just like 1/8" too big around to fit inside the pipe itself.

elkbow -> RE: Audiopipe Thread (7/13/2008 12:49:23 PM)

take and cut a ring off of the 6" pipe, put it just inside the elbow and screw it in from the sides, then mount the speaker to the ring

MuddinMaynard -> RE: Audiopipe Thread (7/13/2008 1:51:10 PM)

Yeah, I'd double the last three items on the list, it never hurts to have extra incase a friend stops over.

What about a way to mount it? You just gonna strap it down? If so already have the straps? Don't forget the paint, and speaker wire..

Has anyone tired polyfill behind the speakers to make them sound better? I know stereo shops use that trick in small boxes, the bad thing would be if it shifts and makes your amp overheat.

Very cool, thanks alot for that idea.  I hadn't thought of that yet.

And MuddinMaynard, also thanks for the remembrance of the speaker wire.  I had forgot about that.  I have to take the amp back to AutoZone since I ordered one of those Pyramid 240watt tiny things.  I plan on just bungee cording it down to my rack so that I can easily take it off and put on my friend's SXS.

GODAWGS -> RE: Audiopipe Thread (7/13/2008 9:48:39 PM)

where is a good place to get one of those pyramid amps? What kind of speakers should I get?

strub4x4 -> RE: Audiopipe Thread (7/13/2008 9:57:11 PM)

I got my speakers and amp off of ebay.  I ended up with Polk Audio 6.5's.  They had a wider frequency range than the bazooka's, plus they are marine certified.

GODAWGS -> RE: Audiopipe Thread (7/13/2008 10:00:05 PM)

can u send me a link? How much?

strub4x4 -> RE: Audiopipe Thread (7/13/2008 10:06:32 PM)

Amp: http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?from=R40&_trksid=m37&satitle=pyramid+240&category0=  .. second link.

Speaker: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&item=260261373318

GODAWGS -> RE: Audiopipe Thread (7/14/2008 7:54:21 AM)

will u have to cut a hole in the pipe? Will the amp get hot?

strub4x4 -> RE: Audiopipe Thread (7/14/2008 11:37:39 AM)

Amp won't get hot and yes you'll have to drill a hole or three in the PVC.

GODAWGS -> RE: Audiopipe Thread (7/14/2008 11:43:35 AM)

why and where should i put them?

strub4x4 -> RE: Audiopipe Thread (7/14/2008 12:24:13 PM)

The holes will be to run the power wire and the stereo wire through to your 12v plug and iPod.  Put them where you so choose.

southernarrogant -> RE: Audiopipe Thread (7/14/2008 3:17:45 PM)

I have a question when you seal up your tubes what happens if u need to adjust the amp or change the fuse how do u get back in to do that

you would seal the speakers with silicone so all you would have to do is unscrew them and give them a little tug and the silicone should break loose...depending on how strong you are you might have to eat sum wheaties lol...

strub4x4 -> RE: Audiopipe Thread (7/16/2008 4:25:14 PM)

Ok for some reason I'm not able to pull enough power to turn my amp on.  Could it be that my 600w California Profile amp would draw too much power to even turn it on?  I'm playing around waiting on my 240watt Pyramid.  I have some old stereo equipment from my truck that I thought in theory would work.  I had a 10" Sub and my 600w Amp out there, all hooked up to my 12v Plug and RCA-> Stereo Jack into my ipod.  I couldn't draw anything to turn the amp on.  I tested the outlet on my wheeler with a cellphone charger and it worked fine.  Anyone know anything about this?

sgt_grinch -> RE: Audiopipe Thread (7/16/2008 8:35:56 PM)

Did you put a "jumper wire" from the power terminal to the remote terminal on the amp? That amp is gonna kill your battery quick.

1Bad450 -> RE: Audiopipe Thread (7/17/2008 4:09:38 PM)

Wouldn't you want the remote wire hooked up to something that will turn off with the key so it's not a constant drain?

sgt_grinch -> RE: Audiopipe Thread (7/17/2008 4:19:23 PM)

You can if you want to tap into your wires. I know my 12v plug on my bike doesn't work unless the key is turened on anyway. So when my key is off the amp is off.

Yessir I did.  Nothing turned on.  I'm hoping it's just the amp not being able to draw enough power to turn itself on.  The smaller amp should be able to draw enough, everyone else is using it atleast.  Maybe I'll just get a spare car battery for the subwoofers, if I decide to keep them after I relocate my rad.

strub4x4 -> RE: Audiopipe Thread (7/18/2008 8:43:56 PM)

I'm not getting any sound through my speakers.  I have power to the amp and have tried tweaking the inputs along with all the treble and bass settings and getting nothing.  What kind of chances are there that the RCAs -> Stereo Male isn't working?

MudKing02 -> RE: Audiopipe Thread (7/20/2008 9:39:30 AM)

I would try wireing it up directly to the battery. My outlet plug didnt have enough juice coming to it to run the radio set up I made. I wired it direct to the battery and it jams right along.

CRAIGGRIZZ700 -> RE: Audiopipe Thread (7/23/2008 9:45:03 PM)

will a mp3 player work as well as a ipod for this setup?

TeamMudd -> RE: Audiopipe Thread (7/24/2008 7:36:29 PM)

man keep us informed on how it sounds.

i've been putting together a "grocery" list as well.  me and buddy were going in together to make us 2 audio pipes, he got lucky and found one for $120 shipped to him.  so now it's just ME.  he's got the "hook up" on the PVC (fringe benifit at work), so now i'm going threw the list aquireing stuff from payday to payday.

let us know how it turns out, PICS and SOUND!!

strub4x4 -> RE: Audiopipe Thread (7/24/2008 7:55:55 PM)

Sounds REALLY good my buddy and I think.  I'm waiting on the silicone around the wires and speakers to dry so I can seal up the elbows and then paint it.

TeamMudd -> RE: Audiopipe Thread (7/24/2008 8:14:47 PM)

cool man.  i'll get started on mine after i get all the jetting taken care of.

strub4x4 -> RE: Audiopipe Thread (7/24/2008 8:24:52 PM)

Make sure you have clean, flush cuts.  I tried sanding and touching mine up with a die grinder and my buddy Doug just wouldn't stop making fun.  It looks like I was drunk playing with the die grinder.  Nothing a bunch of silicone can't fix up though! [:D]
