Just curious if anyone has used this or have any info on it

BIGGEREIGER -> RE: Eiger reverse overide, has anyone used this (7/2/2008 1:47:51 PM)

I may try it out, where does it install at

Great link, I think I'm going to buy one for my Eiger. I think it will help with moving snow this winter.

I just found these instructions. Looks like it can be done for just over a buck. Can anyone verify this?

1) Locate the c.d.i. on the left rear of the Eiger. It is mounted to the front side of tool box.

2) Expose approx. 8" of the wires going to the c.d.i.

3) Locate the white wire and the blue/red wire. Make sure the white wire is a solid white with no tracer colors.
Make sure the blue wire has a red tracer.

4) Cut the blue/red wire. Seal the end that goes to the c.d.i. with tape or shrink tubing. This wire wll not be used. Strip 1/2" of the blue/red wire that goes toward the front of the eiger.

5) Solder white stripe side(cathode)of the diode to the ble/red wire.
Seal connection with tape or shrink tubing.

6) Strip, but do not cut, the white wire approx. 1/2". solder the black(anode)end of the diode to the white wire.
Wires should lay flat together, no kinks or bends.

7) Seal connection with tape. Reinstall wire loom and secure to frame.

I did this to my eiger about a month ago and it was both easy and awesome! works great especialy in slick mudholes climbing out in reverse. just take the diode # to radio shack and for a buck you get 2 of them. The CDI is in front of the rear storage box. deffinately recomended for ALL EIGERS!

I was trying to figure out a way to activate the rev limiter through a swiitch for the forward gears? would allow my friends kids to safely learn to ride. any ideas? i just dont want to fry my CDI.

I have a 05 auto eiger and would love to know if this works for the manual, auto or both? thanks

LiveForMud -> RE: Eiger reverse overide, has anyone used this (7/6/2008 8:54:55 AM)

i don't think this override is for the manual eigers. CVTs can go dang near as fast in reverse as they go in forward, so they need a rev limiter to keep reverse from going too fast and hurting someone.

the only way to fix the manual eiger's reverse is to change the gearing by fooling the trans into selecting low range as you pull the handle into reverse. i've been trying to get someone with a milling maching or lathe to modify the shift cam so you'll get low reverse, but no one has stepped up so far. with this shift cam mod, the AC/eiger 400m reverse will literally be the lowest on the market, instead of the highest (your reverse gear will be about 11% lower than a big bear's 1st gear... and that's saying something good).

when i get done with my house in the next month or two i'm going to give the shift cam mod a try and see if someone wants to be the guinea pig. the AC400M guys over on arctic chat are eating this up: http://www.arcticchat.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=83775&hl=shift+cam

Actually it says manual and auto

I found another set of instructions using a switch to turn it off and on. Was for the vinson, but can be adapted to the eiger.

works on either manual or auto bikes, it just bypasses the rev limiter, letting the engine spin faster in turn spinning your tires faster. be aware not only will it be very easy to roll over at faster speeds in reverse but the tranny and diffs are not as strong in reverse (a big fast turning mud tire suddenly grabing traction can easily strip a your gears or crack the housing). but hey fixing your bike is almost as fun as breaking it!

LiveForMud -> RE: Eiger reverse overide, has anyone used this (7/9/2008 8:23:04 PM)

still, removing the rev limiter won't do much for the manual eiger's weak reverse problem... so save your money. it's a gearing issue.

scroughorn -> RE: Eiger reverse overide, has anyone used this (7/13/2008 9:47:26 PM)

I JUST DID THIS TO MY EIGER AND IT WORKS GREAT IN REVERSE.  This WAS the eigers biggest flaw in my opinion, not anymore...

LiveForMud -> RE: Eiger reverse overide, has anyone used this (7/13/2008 10:32:50 PM)

as it should have helped... the auto eigers have around a 58:1 reverse overall gear ratio, and removing the limiter lets you get the engine into the higher rpm (where there's more power) at that same ratio so you can turn your tires easier (this is the advantage of CVTs).

however, the manual eigers only have ~35:1 reverse ratio (which is why they can hardly turn a 26-27" tire in reverse in mud) and removing the reverse limiter won't accomplish much, if anything at all since the ratio is so high due to being forced to work with the high range gear set. if you can access the low range gear set in reverse on the manual eigers you wind up with a VERY strong 67:1 total driveline reduction in reverse, which is what the shift cam mod i'm working on does (engages the low range reduction gears when you're in reverse).

i just don't want anyone getting the wrong idea...

lileigerthatcan! -> RE: Eiger reverse overide, has anyone used this (7/24/2008 1:42:44 PM)

I am defijnitely interested in this shift cam mod for the manual eigers, mine bogs all the time with my 27 vampires and i would love to be able to stop it!
