Okay...Okay
Just hit the jackpot for my Dakota. For my 16th b-day my parents and grandparents said they would buy me a lift, tires, rims, stero...ect
But I need some help on stuff..
1. Can I run 34" Boggers?
2. Do they make a remotly cheat suspension lift?

3. If I get a body lift, how many inches should I get?
4. Is there any drive shafts/axles/universals and stuff that I need to get aftermarket.
5. What is a nice looking 16 or 18 inch rim?
6. What is the best winch?
7.What top brand stero should I get?

Here is a current pic of it and the canned ham with XTRs

I will keep you guys informed as it comes alone...
Just about everything I do will be on your guys opinions.

Thanks again
      Dylan

stereo advice. first of all know that you are going to loose your butt. i am 20 and i know what your going through getting your first car and wanting to do stuff but just remember what ever you out in youll probably never get back. good thing about stereos is you can transfer it from veichle to veichle. door speakers and componets i would run rocksford fosgate of infinti i have never had a problem with either and my subs i would run fosgate i just bought two tens they are p3sd210s there made for trucks that dont have alot of space. as for head units if you want a good one you can use for years get a kenwood or alpine i had my kenwood double din for 3 years but sold it when i sold my 2500 hd. i just recently spent over a grand on my 08 z71 but it is worth it. also stay away from ebay it is worth paying more at your local audio shop because if it blows breaks anything they fix it. hope i helped fill free to ask me any questions i have had 7 cars in 5 years all had systems and i have hooked up a bunch.

also i just bought 18 inch moto metal rims and they look freaking awesome black rim with chrome lip not to overly priced either. and from experince there is no such thing is a cheap suspension lift and body lift can be ok if its the right kit make sure it has bumper brackets to lift the rear bumper or you have a tacky space like my yota had. get a 3 inch if you can and throw in a leveling kit. also warn is the best. in my opinion. question is your truck even 4x4

The answer depends a little on what you are going to do with your truck. If you're like me when I was 16, I'd recommend to buy a tank and you'd prolly still manage to somehow break it.

quote:

1. Can I run 34" Boggers?

Yea, but be careful when you rip into em in the mud and when doing burnouts. If they are spinning hard and suddenly get grip, you may break something in your driveline.

quote:

2. Do they make a remotly cheat suspension lift?

You can lift that thing in your back yard. Rancho makes a decent one that's well priced.

quote:

3. If I get a body lift, how many inches should I get?

You shouldn't need a body lift. You will clear 34" boggers with 3" suspension lift.

quote:

4. Is there any drive shafts/axles/universals and stuff that I need to get aftermarket.

You can go as far as you want in that. If you're just going to drive it around town and do 'light' mudding on 34" boggers, you can keep the stock driveline. If, like any 16 year old, you will want to do the occasional burnout, you may want to look for an aftermarket axle and add some sway bars to keep the rear end from moving around. A Dana 44 should be plenty to run 34" boggers.

Burnouts , yea there might be a few of those after I get the borla exhust and a supercharger

But...I think I have it all planned out, besides the wheels and stero

02 Dakota sittin on a 3" body lift, running 34" boggers, with a nice set of wheels, and a good stero. I am thinkin Diamond (spelling??) stero system, with 2 10" subs?

What do ya'll think?

i would get a set of 16x10 mickey thompson classic 2's... after all these years they still look best to me, im not a fan on the other "big" rims... as for the stereo, go with alpine flip out tv/dvd head unit, kicker cvr subs and kicker amp.... i go through vehicles and speakers by the dozens every few months so i know from experience which ones sound good and work best. put you a set of 35x14.50 boggers on it... they might wear fast but they look D*MN good while they are on there...

If your going to drive it on the road everyday, I would not get Boggers. Suspension lift are a lot better than body lifts.

What is your budget?

LIFT KIT- 6" susp Rough Country, or 3" body lift kit
TIRES-I would not recommend boggers! You need nitto's, dick cepek, Micky tompson, anything along that line.
RIMS- Dick cepek DC-1 rims
WINCH- anything from warn, or mile marker
STEREO- Kenwood flipout DVD player/ cd flat screen
The rough country is the cheapest lift out there , the 3" body lift wont cost you 150 bucks and the 6" wont cost you about 700-1,000

I pretty much dont want the boggers after what I have heard. And I havnt heard anything good about the suspension lifts for the dakota. Everyone says that the universals/driveshafts/axles are crap after that..And I dont want it to be huge. 6" is quite a bit but it is a posibility.

All the tires that have been talked about...I like them all. I especially like the TrXus STS, the Thornbirds both by Interco, and the Krawler by BFGoodrich.
Any opinions on those tires?

I have made up my mind on a winch. Im going warn.

As far as steros. I am taking it to my local stero place in chillicothe ohio, and telling them to put what is best in it...But I am going with a 7 1/2" flip monitor head unit.

Thanks

Yea, Crapbirds are eleventy billion times worse than any other tire made., TruXus STS tires are crap and the BFG Krawlers are not for your truck.

Why don't you look into the new BFG KM2, the resemble the Krawlers, but are the new generation of mud-terrains...

305/60R18 BFG KM2 which converts to a 32.4x12x18

I'd run a black scheme on your truck since it's red.  Actually, I think black looks good on everything for a weird reason. lol

I have no clue what your bolt pattern is, so go to www.4wheelparts.com and go wild...

Who were you talking too? If you were talking to four wheeler by hear, that is wrong. Leave him alone just because your parents wouldn't buy you the stuff. Just don't come in here and make him feel bad about having a nice truck. Now, back to the truck, I would go with 35" Dick Cepek Mud Country's. It would look great and probably some Dick Cepek black rims. Those are my views on rims and tires. The Warn winch will work great also. Also, I think the 6" rough country lift would suit you. However, I have no experience with stereos so ask the other guys. And for rims and tires go to www.jegs.com , they have the ones I said. Search around and hope it comes out like you want it!

If you want to do any kind of off road, you don't want 20" of rim for a 33" tire. You need some side wall to work with.

They will be noisy and will wear fast on a daily driver, but they will still leave any other DOT approved mud tire behind in the mud. It all depends on what you want to do with it.

For a mild lift, your driveline angles won't change too much with a suspension lift. The suspension lift will also give you more flexibility. If, however, you're just looking to clear tires for looks, the body lift delivers for a reasonable price.

Any opinions on those tires?

You are giving such a wide variety of tires its hard to tell you what is good. If you're going to drive it down the road, I'd be looking into all terrain tires. If you want to do something else with it, just buy a tire that suits your application. The TSL from Interco is a pretty good all round tire if you want to do a little bit of everything and still be ok on the road.

Don't buy TrXus and Thornbird, they suck at everything.

quote:

I have made up my mind on a winch. Im going warn.

Can't go wrong with that. I see that you have no bumper / brushguard in your list of mods. have you considered where you will be mounting it?

Okay, Okay, you got me. If I already knew what I was talking about. Why would I ask you? I am still 15, I dont have the slightest clue how to work on a truck...I can work on a four wheeler. And for the spoiled part, If you would read the big black book...the end is pretty soon bud...why not spend my money while I am here? Whats the point of money if you cant spend it? There isnt a point.

So in all honesty...you are right...your words are exactly right.

kawaboy13  -  Thanks...I am going to look at some of the tires and rims, I really have not made up my mind.

TomBFL  -  There isnt going to be much off roading...besides a little in the Okeechobee Mudfest of 09.  So I am not really worried about sidewall. But I have decided aginst the 20" rims after seeing the price of them.
