Apparently my IQ needs to be checked....I made this posting on the wrong thread last night. Much more relevant for this discussion.: MAN, I don't check HL for a couple of days and you guys are off writing reviews about the ape guys and VIPER. Fun to read! I can provide a bit of background. Our two companies used to get our winches from the same place. About six months ago, the ape guys switched to a different manufacturer in China -- our guy there said they screwed over the previous factory in the process. He also said the factory they went to might be less expensive, but the quality is going to suffer. I really can't verify that for sure....just saying what I was told. What I do know is that our factory provides for the SuperWinch and -- from what I understand -- some/all of the internal components of the Ramsey winch. Having been in this business for 4+ years now, I have seen crappy winches come out of China and I have seen good ones. We will ALWAYS pay more on the front end in order to get the best possible quality for the VIPER winch. The Ape guys will sell a TON of winches....often to younger riders because -- if you are like I was -- you have very little left-over money to spend and a $50-$70 winch is quite appealing. That makes tons of sense to me. But I do think it is quality that will win the day in the end. So Apes are going to sell a lot on the front end and in the short-term, but we are most concerned about rider loyalty in the long run. So, right or wrong, we are trying to build a company that can appeal and provide to riders awesome products at great prices for their entire life of riding -- both when we really have to pinch pennies at a younger age and when (if we are lucky) we have a bit more discretionary income to get all the bells and whistles of the VIPER MAX or VIPER ELITE. Either way, we tend to think that if riders can trust the company and the product, they will keep coming back. Our winches are not perfect....1badkittykat had a difficult experience it seems and we have really tried to work with him...but no winches are perfect and I can testify to the fact that our reliability for motors, gears, etc. way exceeds 99%. Have a good night everyone. Thanks for the discussion. Peter CEO MotoAlliance
