i am getting a new sport bike. I really like the kaw 450r. what are yall thoughts on this bike. I had a honda 450r liked it but wont to go with something else this time around

05mudiak -> RE: getting a new sport bike need some thoughts (6/1/2008 10:03:22 PM)

I would go check out the yamaha 450 its pretty much the best 450 out right now according to all the mag. reviews

Thatpolarisguy -> RE: getting a new sport bike need some thoughts (6/2/2008 12:48:12 PM)

get the yfz 450 its the best.

SCboys -> RE: getting a new sport bike need some thoughts (6/2/2008 12:58:52 PM)

I'd go with the yfz 450[:D].

chrisrhino -> RE: getting a new sport bike need some thoughts (6/2/2008 4:52:03 PM)

i like the yamaha 450 i thought the kaw was the baddest out. but i hadnt been keeping up with the sport bike latly

sackamous -> RE: getting a new sport bike need some thoughts (6/2/2008 7:15:26 PM)

Actually the KTM is the baddest mofo around [;)]
For the price though the yfz cant be beat.[:D]

chrisrhino -> RE: getting a new sport bike need some thoughts (6/2/2008 7:21:19 PM)

cool yeah i dont want to spend that much. I just bought a new jet ski. I am trying to get the best bang for my buck. so the yfz is faster. the only mods i am going to do is full exhuast air filter and jet kit. or the programmer if i go with the kaw 450. the yfz will be faster after i do these mods or the kaw will be faster. thanks

05mudiak -> RE: getting a new sport bike need some thoughts (6/2/2008 7:27:24 PM)

between the 2 with those mods the yamaha should deffinitly be faster and handle better.

and yes the ktm is a bad mofo but high $$$$$

chrisrhino -> RE: getting a new sport bike need some thoughts (6/2/2008 7:34:14 PM)

k thanks i like the yamaha better just wanting the faster out of the 450r how does it compare to the 700 raptor with the same mods.

05mudiak -> RE: getting a new sport bike need some thoughts (6/2/2008 8:02:39 PM)

its beats the 700 at everything except very top end the 700 has a higher top speed

sackamous -> RE: getting a new sport bike need some thoughts (6/2/2008 8:30:40 PM)

I say yfz. Like you said pipe, filter, jet kit, cam mod(its free) throw a 13 tooth front sprocket on it and enjoy. Yea the raptor is a little quicker at top end, but enless your running a half mile of black top he wont have a shot.

chrisrhino -> RE: getting a new sport bike need some thoughts (6/2/2008 8:47:50 PM)

k thanks alot. i am gonna stick with the 450

Flordia__redneck -> RE: getting a new sport bike need some thoughts (6/2/2008 9:56:51 PM)

what about the suzuki 450?

charlie500 -> RE: getting a new sport bike need some thoughts (6/2/2008 10:56:52 PM)

What is the average top speed of a sport 450? Any brand, just and average? I am not up to date on this topic. Thanks.

Flordia__redneck -> RE: getting a new sport bike need some thoughts (6/2/2008 11:09:18 PM)

75ish

charlie500 -> RE: getting a new sport bike need some thoughts (6/3/2008 12:30:19 AM)

so they are the same as a stock 08 Brute Force!

man those brute forces are fast!

sackamous -> RE: getting a new sport bike need some thoughts (6/3/2008 5:23:08 AM)

Yea but takes about a mile of black top to hit 74 (all I got out of mine stock) on a brute. That yfz will do it in a few hundred feet. The suki is a good bike too, they all are. The only think I got agenst it is its a almost too wide. At 49 inches its like an inch wider than the front of my brute with 1.5 wheel spacers and 12 wide tires on the front. Makes it really stable, but a **** on a tight trail. I know a lot of woods racers are acutally putting shorter a arms on um. Just incase your wandering the yfz is around 45 wide. All the 450s are impressive bikes, you will be satisified anyway you go.  Ive ridden all but the new ktm and ds 450, I like the yfz, but thats probley cause I have the most seat time on one and am kinda partial to mine. If I bought another it would hands down be the yfz. Just my oppinion though.

badboyprarie -> RE: getting a new sport bike need some thoughts (6/6/2008 3:14:41 PM)

The new KTMs handsdown

hon450r -> RE: getting a new sport bike need some thoughts (6/16/2008 10:19:23 PM)

I ride a honda 450r and it set up for motocross racing so i obviouly get to see the strengths and weaknesses of the 450s.  I am very satisfied with my honda, but it is highly modified.  When it was stock, the suspension was way to stiff.  Power output was always awesome.  But, if i had to get a 450 and keep it close to stock, i would get the ktm if price wasnt an issue.  If you want to save a few, the yamaha is definately your best bet.  You could do the cam mod with other slight mods and have a mean machine.  The suzuki in my experience is down on bottom end power compared to the others.  It is still an awesome machine none the less.  The kawasaki is nice, but the design of the intake is where is falls short to respond as well to mods as the other bikes.  you can fix it if your heart is set on the kawasaki.  After some intake mods, it will be just as good if not better than the others.  and it has efi to add to it all.  That being said, i would still get the yamaha before the kawi.  just a better and more proven bike, imo

hondaguy0430 -> RE: getting a new sport bike need some thoughts (6/23/2008 11:01:11 AM)

def. the yfz! my buddy has one and its unbelievable!!!

BrootGoot -> RE: getting a new sport bike need some thoughts (6/23/2008 11:09:47 AM)

zuki, ktm, kawi, honda, yfz, canam :cant go wrong with any of the 450s imo.

Kawaboy13 -> RE: getting a new sport bike need some thoughts (6/23/2008 5:46:57 PM)

THe YFZ, but it doesn't have reverse......

Joseph Who? -> RE: getting a new sport bike need some thoughts (6/25/2008 5:37:34 PM)

If I couldnt get another YFZ I would go with an LTR. I love my yfz though.

calytonott -> RE: getting a new sport bike need some thoughts (6/26/2008 3:10:09 PM)

if you want to spend a lot its the can-am or the KTM. in your price range i would go with a Suzuki. its the only thing better that the honda and it is very fast. i have seen a stock suzuki run 81 by radar. the yamaha will do 75-76 and the kawi is only good for 73 by radar. yamaha's run good if you can keep them running. kawi's have great accelaration but they can be beat by a King Quad 750 in top speed..that sucks.

BrootGoot -> RE: getting a new sport bike need some thoughts (6/26/2008 4:26:17 PM)

LTR is a great bike, but 81mph bone stock? i think its a little less, i'll find out and post.

BrootGoot -> RE: getting a new sport bike need some thoughts (6/26/2008 7:16:37 PM)

i was wrong, a buddy who is an ltr fanatic says with the right tires a bone stock ltr CAN go 80 mph.  i stand corrected.

sackamous -> RE: getting a new sport bike need some thoughts (6/27/2008 5:17:16 AM)

If by right tires you mean putting bigger than the stock 18's. Then yes it will do 80, but isent in stock trim anymore. In fact a simple 8 dollar sprocket could put any of these bikes in the 100mph range. You will loose a lot of acceleration but I will be fast as **** on top end. In all my experience though, I have only toped the bike out a hand full of times. If we are racing 300ft (standard atv drag) if I can get to say 65 in that 300 ft, but can only do 70 on top end. You can get to say 58, but can do 90 on top end guess who wins?

BrootGoot -> RE: getting a new sport bike need some thoughts (6/27/2008 7:25:41 AM)

yes i see your point.  imo top end is not the deciding factor in what type of bike to get.

BrootGoot -> RE: getting a new sport bike need some thoughts (6/27/2008 1:19:59 PM)

After installing the cherry bomb with the trailtech rolling circumfrence set at 1540mm, I had it pinned in 5th on a long flat road and hit 77.2 mph at 10.5k rpm. After I had put the 20" razrs on with the stock 14th sprocket I had it going 88.1 at 10.2k rpm. And thats giving it ALL it had on the road. It wouldnt pull past 10.2k rpm with the 20's. Now that I have the 13th in the front I've got it up to 77.6 mph at 10.6k rpm. Those are just readings from the trailtech speedo though, but from what I've seen it is very accurate.

da king -> RE: getting a new sport bike need some thoughts (6/27/2008 3:17:57 PM)

depending on what you are going to do to it.the ktm really isn't that much more.by the time you spend the money fixing it up you will have more into than what a ktm is.and also the ktm could very easliy be a 60hp bike with little mods.but if you are just going to cruise around and not race it.they are all good.i have a ltr and love it.but i have allot more into than a new ktm.
