You are still going to have the problem of getting high centered in the rear.  That almost a 2 ft gap.  The paddles will also dig their own ruts easy due to the lack of surface area.

Mine was an 01. I know the body changed, 05 I believe. Not sure if it was just the body. I know some minor carb adjustments were made in 02 which gave them just a tad more power. TeamMudd, THANK YOU. That is the design I was talking about, mainly one side, but that is it. On the recon, the gap wouldn't be near that bad. Should work, or atleast help out a lot.

3/8" plate would be hard to bend and I can't imagine anything you could encounter on the trail that would break it!

My paddle's are also braced with flat bar between them. The ground will likely give before the paddle does.

Since they're like having a 3rd tire, figured tire talk would get the best response. Here's my Honda 300 (AKA "Tha Giant Killer") with a modified swing arm and a bolt on "centered" axle paddle. It is an absolute beast in the mud and ruts!! Haven't found an IRS bike that will beat it yet.

Yeah, but i had some worn out 25x9.5 Super Swampers on the rear and 25x8 Mudlite AT's up front.  Went down the highline and back with ease.

alright so heres my question, on the 300 are you all melting the cast off the drum or are you using something like the 200sx threewheeler disc brake hub as a mount for your paddles on the axle.

I used a plasma cutter and cut the stock break pannel to keep the casing sealed

they use the same splines and everything though, it will seal with the 200 disc mount, i was just looking for a way to avoid destroying a drum incase i wanted to put it back to factory later.

I took a cut off wheel on a grinder and cut the cast off.

From looking at the pics, guessing you guys welded sleeves(pipe) to the hubs and that is what your bearings ride on? - I'm thinking one of my 2wd 300's may go under the knife soon.....
