60" if i remember wright. The axle's are sitting at 36 degrees if attwood didn't change anything. I think he might of lowered it alittle so that would of made it wider.

a couple of educated guys told me that the left rear is 2 inches longer than the others. they told me that the right rear and the front axles are the same length

This is correct

Are they also the same axles as far as CV placement and input lengths/sytles?  (Right Rear and 2 fronts)

Thanks.

the bracket.

Thumbnail Image

Good luck making that bracket work.  I tryed something similar to that in the past and couldnt get it to steer.  It throws the steering geometry off bad.  The mounting point on the steering steem and the point on the knuckle need to be in line.  This will allow the bike to steer the same in both directions.  With that plate the tie rod is trying to push the knuckle  instead of rotate the knuckle.  One word of advice that works better.  If you bend the upper a-arm where the tie rod hits it will work fine.  You can either bend that peice of the upper arm down or up to allow the rod to move freely.  I hope im not confusing you.  Hope all goes well.

no not at all, i was thinking that would be a problem. i can just go with the regular setup. im glad we have this forum so i can ask u guys all these questions before i do something it saves alot of time, 60 inches is about how i want mine, also on a 36 or37  degree.  on the stock axles i think the front and rear cups internals will change out i think, i know the outer cups are the same. its just that one axle thats different in the length.                 again thanks guys               i should be going to ape thurs of fri.

I started building a 12'' kit for my 2005 Grizzly about a week ago.  I have rear done and will post some pics tomorrow when I get to work. (Thats where I am doing the build).  I already have two sets of **** Axles.  So I just called Ryan at GA(Greg was on vacation) and he sold me the new shafts for the lift.  I then squared the bike up and ended up with 37.6 degrees on the rear axles and 38 degrees even on the front.

I used one inch I.D. tubing for the build.  Also used 1.250'' tubing for the lowers rubber mounts and also for the shock mounts.  I extended the axle centerline of the rear 1.500'' so it may try to keep the front end down in the mud.  I am also gonna add a 13'' peice of 3'' x 4'' rec tubing in the lower part of the front bumper(where the winch would go) and I then can place ballast in it.  We use tungstun as ballast in a Cup Car.  A 6'' x 3'' x 4'' will weigh 33.5 pounds.

I have had this bike since new in o4' and had ****'s 5.5'' kit on it about 2 years.  I loved it since the day I got it.  I really hope I will love this left as much.

As I said I will post some build pics ASAP...

went to ape last thurs and got my bars. i was talking to greg and tellin him about what i wanted in this new lift i was buildin. he suggested that i go with a 8 inch lift, its more capeable down the trails and its bigger than the 5.5.  so i went with 20 inch bars and the longer bar was a 22.  so i got the bars, 4 new artic cat boots, 36 bushings, and a heck of alot of bands.   on the lift progress i havent had much time to work on it, most of it is done at night. ive got the front left pretty much dont except for the shock mounts which will come later. the bars are on a 36 degree, and have about a 1/2 inch of slide in and out of the cups. the brown grease on the cups is open gear lube to keep the cups from rusting, i didnt want to put boots on them because in getting them powder coated. well here the pics its nothing fancy but it will work.

Slotted all the tubing ends for the rod end slugs.  All the rod end used on the uppers were 1/2''.  The bikes mounts had to be drilled to receive the 1/2'' bolt. NOTE Only on the uppers mounts.

Upper tube with rod end installed.

The thread pattern on the rod end is 1/2'' x 20 NF (means there are 20 threads per inch).  The threaded portion of the rod end is 1 1/2'' long, meaning there are 30 threads on the rod ends.  WTH, where am I going with this!!  I ran the jam nut all the way up the rod end and threaded the rod end into the tubing.  Then backed it out 8 full turns.  I had determined the a would never want to go fartther out that 16 full turns, more than this could over-stress the rod end.  By parking it at the 8 turn, half way make, I can now adjust it as much as 8 turns in or out to adjust camber as need be.

That is what we do on some of the lift but we use a 5/8x18 heim which is the largest you can use an still clear on most bikes.
Is that a bridgeport or an Inport mill?

Just to allow for camber adjustment down the road.  I am about the 280 lb. mark, so if I ever sell the bike to some poor fellow who may weigh 125 lbs. he can adjust for that.  I did put Rhino rear springs on it, so it may not notice I am there anymore.  I may have to play with the shock/spring angles.

I see allot of lifts with the shocks/spring running straight up and down.  Must be stiff!  Mudvillegrizz may be able to reiterate on that subject.

I took the angle of mine just a bit over stock.  Although, like I said I used the springs from a 1000 lb. vehicle.  So we'll see.  I do reallize I dont plan on running this bike at 200 m.p.h. but I cant help it, I build everything that way.

Trial and error, and God knows I am used to the error part.

Guys, I have a confession.  You say that our lifts look great and we're doing a good job and we all really want to Thank You for that.  You can tell a good mechanical engineer or chassis man or fabricator or just an individual in the his backyard thats wants it, so he makes it.  Because they have a lifetime of messing stuff up and breaking crap!!  We have had to fix things our whole life!   Is this the truth???   Anybody??   LOL
