I just installed the HID lights on my 2008 700 Grizzly yesterday...These things are so bright that they will blur your vision if you look head-on into them. Very cool and very easy to install on the grizz. Everything is plug and play. No modding of the headlight socket or the wiring. I went with the 80$ kit on ebay with the slim ballest with the 8000 series color choice. Its a nice blue tone. I wanted it more for looks than function or i would have went with the whiter 6000 series. Overall im impressed. The ballest make a humming noise for about 8 seconds then it goes away as the lights warm up..The hardest part i had with the install was finding a place to mount the ballest but managed to get it done. Took about a hour start to finish and that involved removing the front rack and plastics for the battery compartment. I dont know how reliable this setup will be for riding mud and water or how long the bulbs will last due to the vibrations etc. But it is easy enough to remove and put back stock for the grizzly. You guys with the brutes may have to purchase new light socket assemblies..

I don't see how you guys got the wiring through the hole that's drilled out unless you make it huge.

Yeah it takes a decent size hole to get them thru there.

its impossible, so i don't know how anyone does either, at least not from the front, you can push the bulb in from the rear once you get the receptacle hollowed out....but the connectors on the 9006 will not fit through the receptacle..... maybe the h3 is different, i wouldn't think so

and you don't want to do it other than push the bulb in from the back, no reason to and could damage them if you went the other way

Elkbow what did you hook your power wires coming off the relay into? Do I just tap into the factory harness for the high beams or the bigger wires of the hid kit itself?

there is a power in to the relay, that is the fused wire from the battery, then there is a power out to the positive (red) wire on the ballast

the trigger wire for the relay is what comes from the red striped wire on the harness that was removed from the main bulb....since there are 3 connections on it, the outer one is red with some stripe color the other outer one is black with a stripe, the inside one is the low beam, don't need it.....

if you want me to draw it up for you i will, i will do it here shortly and show you how to wire it up, you don't need to cut anything other than the connector off of the ballast, you can use male and female spade connectors to connect everything together....

So since I've got mine hooked up on the high beam I run a fused wire to the bat then a ground to the chasis. Then I need a power going to the ballast power and a separate power going to the high beam wire? Is that right? How do I get it to both sides? Do you just splice of the two power wire then run separate wires to each light? I'm only running one relay.

no....

if you are running only one relay to power both sides, you do not need the harness you removed on the one side out of the main bulb

you will need the harness on one side you pick, there are 3 connections on that harness, the middle wire is the low beam, will not be used.....the two outside wires are the high beam and the ground....

so, take the high beam wire on the harness and run it to the trigger connection on the relay

take the ground wire on the harness and make a connector that connects to it and has 3 connections on the other end, make your own little harness, one wire goes to the relay ground, one to each black wire on each ballast connector on each side....

then you need a wire, fused, from the battery, it goes to the power input on the relay, pin 30

then the power output from the relay goes to each postive (red) connector on the ballast

Got it thanks! I still will have to keep the other side factory harness connected to the small outer light though right?

yes, on both sides you need to keep the smaller light harness connected

i'll draw up your connections tonight and post it up so you can see it, will also draw up a two relay connection for those that want them on both sides

That would help out tons. I've pretty much got mine now but others will use it. I haven't had any trouble out of mine both not coming on except when I didn't have the bike running. It runs the bat dead pretty quick without being started. After I let it run awhile and charge up they both come on perfect. I guess these batteries are just enough to run these lights.

yeah, the batteries are too small, Polaris puts big honkin' batteries in their machines and you can get an Odyssey Dry Cell that drops right in, 925 Cold Cranking Amps....will run anything

I'm pretty sure somebody already said it but if you use the H3 bulbs you have to glue to the very edge if you want your beam to look like STOCKSTINKS is on his garage door.

here is the connection using just one relay, you only have to use the harness that you removed from the main bulbs from one side, just tape off the other one, it isn't required, whatever side you use will provide the ground and the trigger

This is the schematic to use one relay:

This is the schematic if you want to use a relay on each side, for each HID, you need this on each side:

I've left my HID's on for 30 minutes at a time with the engine off and the stereo playing and it cranks right up no problem.

If the HID's are pulling your battery down at all you have another problem.Either a bad ground somewhere or a weak battery. The HID's don't use nearly as much current as the stock halogen when lit.

actually the HIDs draw about 3.6 amps at 12V, but the stock halogen draw as much as 8 amps...

if your voltage drops below 9v, the ballast will shut off, it has the same thing if the voltage gets too high, it will shut off....

there are alot factors that come in to play here, but realistically the HID is easier on your system, but I would still suggest running relays to make sure they run optimum.

the Yuasa is the stock battery and only one size fits, the KMX14-BS which comes stock or the YTX14-BS which is mainly put in motorcycles, both have 12AH rating on them

i ordered a different battery of a different type, 14AH, but place hasn't shipped it yet.....also, Deka makes an AGM battery, but not sure its any better than stock.....there is a possibility to get a bigger battery, but would have to change mounting, don't think its worth it

Yeah I know my batteries are really weak and probably close to destroyed. Last week when it turned over in the creek I ran them dead over and over again trying to get it started. I still haven't been on a ride yet since fixing it so maybe once I ride it awhile it'll charge back up.

i found the dimensions on the batcap 7"W x 3"D x 6-1/2"H

won't fit, but will fit if you get the CVT snorkel out of the way and get a different mount, hence my next project, but i'm gonna look at the dimensions on the Odyssey drycell
