I think you suppose to break them in for like 10 min. that might help. and the best mounting place i found was right behind the rad there is a bracket that runs across the bike. Thats where i put the ballast and i mounted the other small black box on the side of the rad shroud. I can try and take pics. It turned out real clean under there.

Okay here is the deal. The 08's are FI and these HID kits have a spike when they ignite. My buddy put the same kit on his Outty and it tripped his computer everytime.

The fix is to just put a simple relay inline.Your wiring is correct and I did a version of that harness trick also.I just took the male prongs from the HID kit and slid them into the stock bulb harness and siliconed them up solid.I do like  that the harness will fit in there though. I might try that if I have trouble. So far they both light everytime on my 06.

The 1st time you turn the bulbs on they are supposed to stay lit for at least 10 minutes. The bulb needs to be burned in properly. This has nothing to do with the failure to light though.

On the ballast mounting.I used the tape and stuck mine right up inside the headlight bezel to the inside of the larger light. There is a nice flat high spot there. It is the diagonal part of the headlight bezel in front of the radiator.

After having problems getting them to light up, I am considering the relay.

I read the manual, here is what it says:

"If both lamps don't light at the same time or flicker, change the battery to more than 60Ah since it results from the lack of electric power, or add relays to bear more than 15A since it results from the lack of electric current.  Make sure to change the fuse for the headlight to at least more than 20A.   If you use the fuse less than 20A, it tends to be out when the light turns on"

I may go with a more powerful battery than stock, as I am running alot of electrical equipment, but I do have a relay/fuse panel I added to my machine already and could pull the output for the high wire to the relay/fuse panel and back to the power for the ballast.

Does anyone know if any of the Odyssey Dry Cell batteries fit the Brute?  Polaris has huge batteries and I put in a Odyssey PC925L, 925 CCR of power, that was awesome, but the Brute doesn't use as big of a battery...

The smaller light st are the automotive 194 wedge type.Very common bulb.

ELKBOW, My buddy with the outty has a dual battery set-up and still had that issue with one not lighting up.The relay is what fixed it.

If you can fnd a larger/better/stronger battery than stock then let me know.I'd be up to put a better one it also.FTR, I have left these lights on for about 20 minutes at a time with the engine off and there was no issue even with a refire. They popped right back on.It's that initial voltage draw for the igniters that hurts the Fi bikes.

yeah Terry, not sure why the FI would draw more, but have to remember, on ignition turn on I have a relay/fuse panel that comes on, and a water temp gauge and a tachometer, they are all pretty low draw, but there is not enough current to ignite the HIDs reliably....

I have waterproof shockproof relays sitting here, they will be doing on today sometime hopefully....

I looked all over for a good battery, Odyssey doesn't have a dry cell that will fit, too long, i will still be looking and searching the forums to find one....always good to have a better battery, even if it doesn't help ignite the HIDs, I think part of the problem is the small wiring going to the headlights and not sure how they have it going through the fuse panel etc, more wiring, more resistance, some voltage drop

That's a good question.I hate messing with wiring. That's when odd problems arise.

When 1st put my HIDs in I had an issue with the left(driver) one not firing but on the 2nd attempt it would. It did that a couple times in the garage but when I actually took it out to ride it never did it again.

I think that the Fi uses just enough juice to throw it off. Then add your others items and you get the problem all the time.

That relay will work great.

yeah, I will be adding the relays, I was thinking of just using my panel, but that won't work, so I will be adding a single relay in the front that will drive both HID ballasts.....I'm gonna try some things, since there is a separate wire going to each headlamp, the wiring is the same, High, Low and ground, I'm going to use just one of the wires, not the other one, to drive the relay, and only use one ground on the same harness...going to see if that works first, if it does, i'll just heat shrink/seal off the other one, this way they are both driven at the same time, since power is coming directly from the battery, both will have same source at the same time, the relay will be trigger by one wire at the same time, not two relays being triggered by two different wires, even though I know those wires are tied together somewhere......this will just save me the trouble of having to wire in two relays

So with the 9006 I have to grind the bulb base but the wiring can be left stock, with the H3 there is no grinding what about the wiring?  Alot of questions I know. I appreciate the help.

I would imagine the connections the H3 are the same for power to the ballast, so the H3 may be the way to go....

probably need to see how your bulbs are in your housing before deciding what to get, if you can remove the headlight assembly, show us the bulb plug, bulb, wiring, etc. we can probably steer you in the right direction....also search the honda forum for information, maybe someone has done it already...

if it was on, or would go out when they were already on, i would suspect and electrical issue

if consistently one would not come on, then its an initial power issue, i.e. you need to add a relay to control the power....

It might be a stupid question but how does a relay work? and would it be hard to instal?

ok, will try to give you a quick description

a relay is a switch, but the power in and the power out is directly from the battery....but there is a trigger line on it that tells the relay to turn on...

its like on an automobile, when you turn on your igntion it turns on relays so that other things can be powered

so in the case of HID ligts, instead of running the wire from the switch connector to the ballast power, you use it as a trigger to tell the relay to turn on and output 12V power which is straight from the battery.....

they are easy to wire up, you need the trigger, power wire from battery, ground and power out to what you want powered when turned on

yes, H3, but the color is a matter of preference....I have the 6000K and love them, the 8000K is too blue for me, the 6000's are more white
