Give me a link to the 55watt if ya don't mind.

1/4" or less is good to go.The farther back the more concentrated the beam will.Almost like using one of those old style flashlights that you turn the lens and the beam pattern changes.

Wow is all i can say guys. These lights are insanely bright and supprisingly the lense was just warm. Not that hot at all.I went and stood about 100 feet infront of my 4wheeler to see what it looked like tonight and it looked like i was looking at somebody welding. When i went and got back on my bike i was seeing dots, oncoming traffic are definatly going to hate me.Oh and i have a problem.EVer since i put the hids in my display is going back from 2 and 4wd?And its not locking into 4wd anymore....any guesses on what this might be?Is it because  i just snipped off the high beam wire and didnt do anything with it besides cap it off?Any help here?

Sounds like a buss connector problem.  Have you fixed that yet?  I dont think since you cut a high beam wire and capped would be the problem.

If it is disturbing to stand in front of your Brute and look at the lights, the bulb not positioned right!

People.... You owe it to everyone on the trail to get this right. The stock reflector is made like the one in your car. If you are above 4 foot you should not have the lights shining in your eyes.

Right outside of the frame there is a bundle of wires next to the cdi/4wd boxes.Almost right next to them but on the outside of the frame. You will see wrapped up in tape what looks like a thick pack of matches.Inside that is a group of wires connected in a whiteish box.The box is not sealed and DOES corrode. When you look at it most likely you will see green corrosion inside the top. These are all positive wire connections. The negative connections are about 12" up the frame rail in a similar box in that same wire bundle. Those seem to be okay for everyone.

Disconnect the cdi and 4wd box to give you room to pull some of the sire bundle out awy from the frame.Cut the white box off as close to it as you can. There will be 3 different colors of wire in there.Connect all the same colors to the same colors. You will have THREE clusters of four I believe.Solder them and tape them up real good. Then rewrap them back tot he bundle to stay out of the way.It is pretty darn tight in there so it's a bit frustrating to get enough wire length.

I just disconnected the battery negative and left it off for a few minutes and reconnected it and it has worked fine ever since. And as far as the headlights go i think they are gonn either have to stay that way because im sure if i take them back out to move them futher back into the socket i will end up breaking them because i rtv siliconed them and i also super glued them around where the bulb recessed down into the socket.Maybe ill try it one day...after nats.but i just dont want to go tinkering with stuff right now with nats a few days away. How far down did you recess your hids in your stock housing stockstinks?

I have seen on here where people are securing their bulbs about 1/4" in the OEM bulb housing.  I used the h3 bulb and mine had to be mounted flush with the end, not 1/4" in.  This may change depending on what style of bulb you use....h3 vs. 9006 for example.

WHATEVER THE BULB....MAKE SURE THE FOCUS IS CORRECT!!!  THIS MAKES ALL THE DIFFERENCE IN THE WORLD!!!

I think SS and I where assuming your bulbs are the same as ours. What I mean by this is the little round section in the middle of the bulb should be right where the OEM bulb filament is in the OEM socket. That little bulb portion acts similar to the filament in the OEM bulb.

hmm looked at both of them (the 55watt and the 35 watt ) when i got both of the kits in and held them beside each other and the bulb part looked almost identical. The onlything differnt was the ballast part on the 55 watt was twice the size of the 35 watt.So should i be ok?

ALMOST30S - I had to move mine after I rtv'd and super glued them.  Just take a pocket knife and dig the rtv out and scrape on the super glue with the knife.  The come back apart fairly easy.  Just take your time......it will be worth your effort.

Here is another picture with the Brute about 4' from the garage.

This is before I adjusted the height of the lights. (The left is a little high)

Before you glue the bulb into the old socket, you can actually light up the HID light and slide it into the reflector housing... When I did this I could really see how much of a difference it made in the positioning of the bulb. I tried to get my bulb in the exact same spot as the low beam halogen filament. (maybe a 1/4" recessed into the old socket)

I hope this helps!
