My Hid's will flat blind on coming traffic. Don't know how you are going to get around that with out turning lights off.
Where I hunt there is always traffic early morning and after sun down of hunters going to different areas.

They can be adjusted down a good bit with the set screw.

HID's come in different lumens, not sure what you have. I have 4-1850 lumens @ 30 watts each. Great idea but mine are so bright I have to turn them off. They have there own ballast and self contained so mounted on brush bar.

You're set-up is totally different, no doubt you have those issues.
In a reflector headlight, which is what we are doing, you can make a cut-off for the beam.it's pretty simple.

SHORE is right about the factory reflector having the blinding light cut off......You can see how it works in the picture above with it shining on my garage door.

Just for the record......I have the same HID light that AZBRUTE is talking about. It is on my sport machine and I HATE the fact that the reflector doesn't have the cutoff .

This mod is much better for general trail riding. I see NO reason for the non-cutoff type light, other than it would be cheaper to manufacture.

You have a factory cut-off in your housing?

I did my HID's yesterday and WOW.This is an impressive mod.
Things I noticed.

1...I don't see the need for a relay just yet. They fire up at the same time easily.Only one time did one not light on the 1st try.
2...The headlight housing lets a lot of light go into the fender well and radiator area.HID's just make this more noticeable.
3...These slim-ballast kits are very well made for what it costs. All weather-pack connections and sealed up nicely.Other than putting some dielelectric grease in the harness it is all good and tight.
4...The lights are so bright an clear it is apparent that I need to polish my headlights a bit.Everey small scratch and chip is amplified.
5...I'm a little concerned with the heat in the housing. It gets very warm after awhile.I doubt the lens will melt but for certain the RED RTV is needed to seal up the bulb in the socket. The regular stuff would melt fast.

By far the coolest thing is when the bulbs are cold and you flick them on....3-4 seconds of the bulb getting brighter and changing color.

Don't ask me for links but if you go to Ebay you will find almost the same kits that StockStinks uses for $79 shipped.Exact same ballast.TONS of them on there just use "slim ballast" as a search term in ZENON lights. The kit is very well made.It does require some work to fit the bulb in the stock socket but a Dremel almost makes it fun.

Well yesterday was good test for them. The only thing to keep an eye on is if both light up.Out of several times I turned them on twice one light would not light on the intial try.The very next try was 100% successful.

I rode rack deep water a lot and never had a falter. They where submerged completely several times with no effect while on or off.

I also had my Audiopipeplaying for a good amount of time and they still lit right up even with the bike off.

The lens never showed any signs of heat stress. You will however notice any imperfections in the lens it shines though.I have some small scratches and I can see where it affects the light beam.

The funny part is riding with other bikes, for they look to have candles for headlights.I see no further than a good set of clean stock lights but what you see is totally different. When riding behind someone my HIDs will drown out their lights. You couldn't even tell they had their lights on.

Overall I give it a very positive experience so far.

Cool. If you hook them up with a relay like I did, you might get them to both light every time.

Mine use the stock harness. You can't tell they Are even there unless you look on top of the headlight housing or for the bulb. When I say several times I am talking about 30 or so times over the course of the night. We didn't leave down there till about 1am.Long dang day.

I'd be real careful with that 55watt kit.The 35 watt HID one is VERY hot on the lens.Hot enough to where you don't want to touch the lens after awhile.

I promise you won't need more than 2 HID's

Very inportant..... You must get the little round glowing part of your new HID light bulb in the EXACT same spot as your old halogen filament was. If you don't, Your light pattern will be distorted.

I played around with the bulb placement before I glued it in place and the factory spot was right on!

Yup, very true. The depth and position of the HID need to be spot-on for the beam pattern to work properly.

I'm learning this lesson right now...lolz.

Lol, not quite.
You can adjust them up/down to be even with each other. The problem arises when the reflector is throwing the beam all around.I positioned the bulbs identicaly to each other but there was something off about it.

It would shine everywhere basically.Even so in the bulbs incorrect postion,it is an impressive amount of light output.

Well, I got the bulbs repositioned and aligned.Resealed the socket and waited till dark.

Wow, what a difference. There is a sharp cut-off now which means no upper and side glare.

The new HID bulb base needs to sit about 1/4" down into the original socket and the igniter tube needs to be on the bottom.

Minor detail that needs 100% of your attention.I was only 1/4" outside the socket with the HID bulb base and there was no beam pattern or cut-off.

It also feels as if the lens is running cooler now.

That's a yes and no answer to a question you might not understand yet.

HID ballasts use MORE amperage to start/ignite the bulbs than the stock halogen. After that initial hit then yes, they use less.It lights gas in the bulb versus a filament. The intial hit to fire the gas is a bit more than filament bulbs.

The issue you get into is if both igniters fire at the EXACT same time. Most of the time one will fire before the other.A portion of a second difference and they both fire up.They might be on the same wire harness but you have to remember these ballasts operate at 20k volts. The intial will most often vary. Not to say they don't appear to fire identical.
