The other reason is to get a jump on the competition.
If Polaris said they were coming out with a new feature in 8 months, that gives Cat, Can-Am, and everyone else 8 months to develop it and get it out on the market.  Let's say Polaris had told us a year before the RZR came out, then Can-Am, AC, and anyone else would've had a year to come out with something similar.  By not putting the info out there a year before it comes out, that's a year of sales that Polaris has on the RZR that noone else

I was told it takes 3 years for a "from the ground up new model" to go from the drawing board to the dealers show room floor.

It all depends on how "ground up" you're talking about.  Pretty much any new model (whether we're talking about an ATV, a car, a tractor, or a plane) will use some components and technology from the previous generation.
One big thing to remember is that it's a lot easier to copy someone else's work than to design it from scratch.  If you've dealt with some of the Asian countries from an engineering standpoint you will see tons of components that are identical to long standing products.  I once too apart a master cylinder made in china and one made in the US and all the parts inside were interchangeable.  Without a trained eye you'd never be able to tell which is which from looking at them.  Years of testing and research by an American company, copied in two months by a Chinese company.

Bump, could this rumored 850 be a weber 750 stroked out from 66mm to 74mm? That would give it a displacement of 840cc, close enough to 850 for me, and GNCC utility class legal.

Someone may have already posted this but I heard from a reliable source that they are getting rid of the strut system and going to a double a-arm design up front like the RZR.  Which sucks for me because that means my lift want transfer over to the 09's.  Going to have to go ahead and get an 08.

Hey guys, check out this link I found on something called prcforum.com.

http://www.extremerzr.com/docs/08WeberMotorApplicationSummaryJan.ppt

It's report about applications for the Weber MPE 750, it also lists an 820/850 version. It also has some familiar photos from page 1 of THIS thread.  Makes ya wonder where Polaris' new 850 is coming from, I think this says it all.

I had issues opening it cuz it asked for a password but just select read only and it should open.

Just like every year there is speculation on bigger, better, badder ATV`s on every corner and we see only subtle changes. We cry for liftable ATVs that don`t break the bank on mods and have performance to boot. This said when do we get the turbo we want or the ride that is adjustable pending what local we visit or tire size we choose. This is like the proverbial question of life that could add to the billion plus industry`s jugular vien boost in sales for one of the above mentioned options. HINT HINT and listen to more than the media says this or a college questionare says that and listen to people who actually ride and modify the mediocre ATVs that are thrust down our throats year after year. Maybe someone should do like Yaskee and take the good stuff from all the brands and Frankenstien a ridable mudable ATV for the masses like the wet brake from the kawi the horsepower from Can Am and the  fact that American made is better from Polaris. I think I`m not the only one who is on this podium. Let me know.

or the 96 sp500 that truly began the modern trend of atving...
The amazing thing to me is that the frame/suspension is practically unchanged in 13 year models.  True that it's still an amazingly plush overall suspension package, and a tremendously tough frame.  However, engineering technology has come a long ways in 12 years, and I have to believe Polaris is looking to improve upon the platform sometime in the near future...

I agree with Engie.

The 500cc Polaris started the big quad era.

Yamaha answered back the summer of 97 with the 98 Grizzly 600.

I would like Power steering on the 2009 Touring.
It's a great feature when your travelling muddy trails all day long.

Please mister Polaris fix this cherry on the cake for us.

Oh well the 850 popo motor is going to be a beast with its class leading 80+ hp in  utility class machine.

Oh can anyone say power steering through out the line up?    Yeap I knew you could.

If this holds true I think I might have to give another Polaris a try.

Anyone have an actuall release date for the 09' info yet.

Also from release date to showroom, whats the typical time span.
