WoodBoy -> Krylon Fusion Plastic Paint? (2/17/2007 7:44:03 PM)

Has anyone ever used the Krylon Fusion paint for painting the plastics on their fourwheeler? How good did it work?

GNWDAD -> RE: Krylon Fusion Plastic Paint? (2/18/2007 1:40:14 AM)

I have not used it on my atv,but did use it on my waverunner to paint the black plastic around the handle bars that had faded. It came off in a couple of weeks.

cartrrr -> RE: Krylon Fusion Plastic Paint? (2/18/2007 8:26:47 PM)

ya it sucks let me give you some advice go get some rust olem plastic primer(ratttle cans) and prime all the plastic then apply lots of thin coats or rustolem paint this is the best way too do it

B Man -> RE: Krylon Fusion Plastic Paint? (2/18/2007 11:35:39 PM)

it holds up great if you get the plastic prepped right before sparying on.  Better than rustoleum does[:-].   The fusion paints does what it says and bonds to the plastic.  I have it on my big bear and it has held up great and has very few scratches.  No chipping and flexes with the plastic.  I use it hunting and keep it in the brush and it has suprised me!

TRX300man -> RE: Krylon Fusion Plastic Paint? (2/20/2007 7:56:26 AM)

I agree with B MAN. I painted a 250 X one night. No prep, just washed dried and painted. Rode it two days later and by the end of the day, almost half the paint was gone.  I tried it again. This time I took a VERY mild paint remover wheel on the end of a drill and just ever so slightly touched my plastic with that. I cleaned it with mineral spirits and let it dry, then painted with several thin coats. It sat in the garage for 7 full days ( as the directions say ) before it was rode again. 18 months later it STILL looks awesome. NO paint has came off. I did the black trim on my Foreman 400 last year the same way ( it had white overspray all over it from a building that was being painted nearby )  and it still looks great as well. The fusion works great, you just have to prep and wait the proper time like the can says.

I agree. You must follow the directions or else you just wasted the $$ on the paint. If you prep. right, it should hold up fine.

Guest -> RE: Krylon Fusion Plastic Paint? (2/21/2007 1:17:27 PM)

i sprayed it on my spudgun (pvc) and it held  up great (until it caught on fire lol) [:D]

tuck05 -> RE: Krylon Fusion Plastic Paint? (2/21/2007 7:04:26 PM)

Would this paint work well on Spa Hose used for snorkels?

B Man -> RE: Krylon Fusion Plastic Paint? (2/21/2007 8:11:50 PM)

I couldn't say, i used it on my snorkles and have hit them several times with things and it hasn't scratched or chipped off yet.  I also like the spray head alot better than anyother spray paint has.  It doesn't spray in a circle area, instead you spray in a wide flat area like a real paint gun.

Use rubbing alcohol after every thin coat after the coat dries.  It's a really mild paint remover and will just clean the last coat you sprayed and all the over spray off.   Just take your time and don't rush and it will work great.  It's all in the prepping and patience.

06_foreman -> RE: Krylon Fusion Plastic Paint? (2/22/2007 7:33:12 PM)

I painted my streetbike with it.

Mudhack -> RE: Krylon Fusion Plastic Paint? (3/21/2007 6:44:03 AM)

How long where y'all waiting between these thin coats? I did my wifes Eiger pink [:(] and black with the rustoleum a couple of months ago, so now I have to redo it[:@].

quadjunky -> RE: Krylon Fusion Plastic Paint? (3/21/2007 8:11:12 AM)

ive used fusion on all the atvs ive painted and like they say. if you take your time and follow the directions it looks good. just dont use it in cold weather and take your time.[;)]

0zarkrowlko -> RE: Krylon Fusion Plastic Paint? (3/30/2007 7:43:03 PM)

I found that Krylon fusion paint works excellent on plastic. I havent used it on my bike yet but last summer I painted the screens and a few other plastics on my sled and it worked great! The color match was perfect and the process was easy, clean and remove all grease, oil or dirt, let dry, paint several coats, let dry for a week so that the paint could bake and it stood up all winter without a problem. Ive done open water, rode in -30C, rode through brush and not even a scratch.....Do it right and youll be more than satisfied !

Drew665 -> RE: Krylon Fusion Plastic Paint? (2/12/2008 4:15:34 PM)

where can you get this krylon

Flordia__redneck -> RE: Krylon Fusion Plastic Paint? (2/12/2008 4:35:00 PM)

About 8 months of hard ridin. The paint has only chipped on the back fenders from doing wheelies and going back to far, and there is some where my knees hit the tank. I guess a bit of sand gets in there and after riding for 5 hours it works like sand paper. Theres a few other lil spots but for the $20 it was totaly worth it.

MUDTECHinc -> RE: Krylon Fusion Plastic Paint? (2/12/2008 5:58:37 PM)

I have used this on alot of things it is grat paint. it works well the main thing is thin coats and only clean with water. before use. the best part is that it is cheap and dries very fast so if it does scratch it is easy to touch up.

GreenBigBear -> RE: Krylon Fusion Plastic Paint? (2/12/2008 9:53:26 PM)

There is a product called Bull Dog plastic prep,it comes in a spray can,I have a coupl of friends that are automotive painter and they use this stuff to prep the  plastic bumpers on cars and it is suppost to help the paint stick and flex,I have tried it on pvc pipe and it "paint" stays on no matter what ! Unless you take a knife to it [:D]
And you can find it at a automotive paint distrubtor but it will cost you like $20.00 a can but well worth it !!!!!

TMENGES -> RE: Krylon Fusion Plastic Paint? (2/23/2008 10:29:10 AM)

I am so glad that I found this thread, I have my bike torn down, plastics cleaned but didnt use a paint thinner, going to today.  I have black plastics and I am going over them again with the black fusion paint.  So do you just use the clear coat paint after?  I was worried it would look milky when wet? how many coats do yall suggest?  I ride pretty hard and my poor plastics get scratched up good.  I love water, mud and brush doesnt scare me, so what do yall think? how many coats of each?

lunaredneck -> RE: Krylon Fusion Plastic Paint? (2/23/2008 12:50:30 PM)

I painted my green fenders with black Fusion and they turned out great. I used 3 coats of paint.  Also tried a clear coat on the front fenders but it actually was shinier without the clear. It did milk it up a little with the clear.

BowtechnYamaha -> RE: Krylon Fusion Plastic Paint? (5/4/2008 5:39:25 PM)

Iv been thinkin of painting the plastic on my 660, its been rode through briars and tree tops since i bought it and now the plastic is all scratched up. Plus a couple of drunken stupers and a few roll overs it now has some light colors in the plastic where it has stretched.

If you take a heat gun and slowly apply heat to the plastic where it has stretched and discolored, much of the white stretch marks will disappear.

TMENGES -> RE: Krylon Fusion Plastic Paint? (5/9/2008 8:36:02 AM)

UPDATE,  PAINTED THE PLASTICS, THEY LOOKED FANTASTIC, LET SET UP FOR OVER A WEEK, MANY COATS OF CLEAR.  AFTER 2 RIDES, AND TONS OF MUD OVERALL LOOKS GOOD BUT............. ITS CHIPPING OFF[:@] I DONT KNOW IF ITS FROM THICK MUD, TREE BRANCES OF WHAT BUT I AM GOING TO ORDER NEW PLASTICS NOW BECAUSE IT LOOKS DEFORMED.  LOL.

mud_dog450 -> RE: Krylon Fusion Plastic Paint? (5/9/2008 2:57:57 PM)

Do you have any pics?

The chipping off may be from inproper prep before paint was applied.  How did you prep all the plastics prior to painting?

If you justed used a liquid cleaner, you need to do more along the lines of scuffing the surface up with sandpaper.  The directions don't mention scuffing the surface prior to painting but it is something that should be done.

Here's my side panels that I painted with Krylon a few years back.  The paint has held up extremely well to the twisting the panels go through when being removed.  It looks like it was painted like this from the factory.  I cleaned the surface with mineral spirits and scuffed it up with sandpaper.  It's been so long though that I can't remember what grit I used.  I applied 5 coats of paint adhering to the directions, with 2 coats of Krylon clear.
First completed.

Recent pic.  It's not a very close up pic but you can see it has never chipped, flaked or faded over the years.

When I built CrosbyAngel's Stereo box for her bike, the clear did leave a "milky" finish.

To fix the "milky" problem, simply wax it out.  You don't need a special wax, the wax you use on your vehicles will remove it.

Tammy,

After you get your new plastics, send me the old ones and let me see what I can do to clean them up for you so you will have second set.

TMENGES -> RE: Krylon Fusion Plastic Paint? (5/12/2008 1:47:23 PM)

THANKS ANDY,  WE DID SCUFF THEM UP WITH SAND PAPER, AND THEN MINERAL SPIRITS TO CLEAN, THEY ARE CHIPPING UP ON THE TOP RACKS WHERE MY SNORKELS ARE, COULD HAVE SOMETHING TO DO WITH ROLLING MY BIKE[:'(]  BUT OVER ALL I THINK ITS A GOOD PRODUCT.  I WILL GET SOME PICS AS SOON AS ITS CLEAN, BUT I CAN TELL YOU THE MUD LIKES TO STICK NOW THAT THEY WERE PAINTED.
