Okay...welcome anyway. Mine smokes too, but not to the mosquito killin stage yet. Wantin to do somethin with it this summer, just don't know what.
Tons of good info here but don't jump in too quick on the mods cause if you're like me you'll change your mind 42 times before you decide which direction ya wanna go.
Save ya money, listen to the advice then make an informed decision.

Lol- Mine is a mosquito molestor when its cold too. I made a custom 2" lift for mine and jacked up the shocks as high as they'll go, and it rides like a Hyster, but I still love riding the ol' girl.

Can't wait to see those pics kodiak4002007!!

Hey guy's as for the pipe I used a procircuit t-4 from a 2000 warrior on my 98 kodiak. All ya gotta do is cut where the slits on the inlet are for it to slide up more, and make a rear mount. I agree w/every one  I woulnt sell my 98 for nothing. I have the head/cylinder off as I type hopefully I'll have it back together next week. My mods include 27 in. laws, pipe, jet kit, lift kit,l.e.d. lights, floor boards w/ heel toe shifter, handle bar mounted headlight. There is probably more mods but I cant think of them right now.

Well thanks kodiak_style,

I'v had my machine for a couple years now and really have done nothing with it, I bought it as a basket case (it really cam in baskets) after welding the frame up and putting it together it only needed a front u-joint and a half shaft boot and  batt,  it's always ran great, I resently took it out to a friends farm and had a blast in the snow, first thing i did after bringing it me was put a winch on it..... other then that its stock..... I'd like to lift it and from what i see in catalogs the lift kits look preaty simple to build, what would be the max lift? 1.5" ? what size tire could I run?

The lifts are very simple. Look in my pics in my sig there are pics of mine. But I just welded to the existing shock mounts I got about 2 3/8 lift out of it. That is maxed out the bigest you can go on the inboard CVs. I and running 28 EDLs(which are HEAVY) on mine but mine is no where near stock. I ran 26 outlaws for a while with it completly stock and could spin them all day long. I am sure that 26 or 27 is the biggest you want to go and still have it able to function.

You can a lift for from Moose Utility, but it would be esay to build one also. Mine is the 1.5" Moose lift. I was running 28" EDL's at one time on mine, and it turned them fine. These things are so low geared, there's not many tires it won't turn in Low. It is said that an HMF pipe and jet kit will really wake them up, but I haven't done it.

Yea an exhaustt will make it feel liikee a whole new bike. I have an HMF but you have to modify a HMF for a 2000 kodiak, or a big bear to work on a old kodiak. But the hMF on mine was the best mod I did becides tires.

LOL,

I do..... but that's ok, I never thought I'd find others running older machines like mine,  I'd love to put new tires on it, but i want to lift it so i can get the largest i can get on it, (I'm an old 4x4 guy so bigger is better)  and your saying that exhaust is the first thing I should do eh?!? sweet... have to look into it....

Thanks again guys, Skippie

I'm tellin ya Skippie, be careful with them two. Kodiak Style has already convinced me to run 4 rear Grizzly wheels-reversed-on my old Kody. I got the wheels but been workin on my truck. They'll make ya do weird stuff to a perfectly good machine. I just ain't decided what weird thing I'm gonna do next.

Nah man, just 2 flipped Grizzly rims on the rear. I don't think it would turn if you ran them flipped on the front!! I Was running the original rear Kodiak rims on the front at one time, but the front wheel track was still wider than the rear.

You can run 28's with no problems. I ran 27's with no lift for a long time. I've always ran 12's in the rear and 10's on the front, except when I had the EDL's. They were 10 all the way around.

BTW, on a side note, I just got through putting a BBK and a cam in my Grizzly, and now I'm going to do the Kodiak soon!

Ok fellas here they are, pics from this past weekend. This was my first outing on the kodiak since last summer. New motor, new tires, and new BIGGER snorkle. Oh she was bad A** all satruday. There are only pics from the first hole but she made me relize why these are the best bikes ever built.

Kodiak style make sure that you do the 85mm JE piston in your kodiak the wiseco 84 sucks. If you get a cam get the Webcams 88 grind. Mine is going back to my motor builder to get that cam put iin it. It also need valve seals and guides where **** didnt do them when they were suppoosed to.

Hatchie is right. When I started riding with kodiak_style! in August I had a 400ex, soon after it was a snokled 400ex. I got a 4X2 350 Rancher and kept it stock till a few dat ago now it is snorkled. The 400ex is gone now and I have a new 660 grizz to replace it. Before it went riding the first time I put a set of 27" mudlites on. I have went on two rides with those tires. We are snorkling it tomorrow and the kodiak weights for the CVT should be here in a day or two as well as my chrome SS112's and Mudb****'s. Then the Rancher gets the Mudlites and stock rimes from the Grizz.

It's all Kodiak_style!'s fault

that's what I tell my wife
