Got some bad news for ya guys. The Corp closed Deepwater on Monday, due to, ah, well deepwater. When the lake gets over 20 feet above normal, they close the ridding area. As of this morning it was 21 feet over. Not sure how long it will take for the lake to go back down. Here is a link to the "official" corps notice.
http://www.nwk.usace.army.mil/ht/index.cfm

Besure hit the "full story" link to see the full list  of closures.

As soon as they let me know it is back open, I'll post it over on the Mudslingers web site, and try to remember to post here to.

This is not official word from the corp, just my observations.

It gonna take at least a week for the lake to go back down, maybe longer. As you all know, Truman drains into Lake of the Ozarks, that drains into the Grand River, which drains into the Mighty MO, which drains into the Mississippi. Well the Corps cant realease any major water till the Mississippi crests and starts to go back down. That wont be till middlle of next week on down in Arkansas and further south, and that is if they dont get any more heavy rain north and east of us. Then you gotta factor in if we get more heavy rain in the Osage drainage valley {strait east and north east of Truman lake, GWC's area} before or after the Corp starts to release from Truman.

Ive keep an eye on the lake levels in for the past year, and noticed when they release water from truman it drops a little less the a foot a day if there is just normal inflow into the lake, even less if it rains heavy to the east.
Enough of my laymans explanation of the workings of the Corps of Engineers flood control system. I'm sure I have a few errors.

Short strory, as soon as I here good news I'll post it on the Mudslinger website and here. Ya all have a good weekend.

They are running water at the Lake (not very fast however) which drains into the Osage river not the Grand river and then into the Missouri.  The Osage is bank full and out in some areas near me.  It just needs to quit raining here and up north for about a week or more.

I told ya I was sure there was some errors. Can't believe I missed that one though. Just checked the Corps site and it looks like they are running the Genarators at a pretty good clip, so that is releasing a fair amount of water, but till they can't open the spill ways, with what is flowing into Truman, it is going to be a while.

Wasn't trying to start anything Mark.  The biggest problem is Truman and the Lake drain such a huge area and it seems to rain almost every day lately.  The Lake got about 2" yesterday while my wife was there.

NO you weren't starting nothing rambrewster, just correcting me, which I actually appreciate. And you are right, the two lakes do cover a huuuuuuge drainage area, so ever time it rains, and they cant release any water, well we all know what happens. This just kinda sucks, cuase I haven't really had much of a chance to ride this year yet. And it sounds like it may be a while before they can open the flood gates up to let out as much water as is going in now.

Hey Guys, Long time No See

Are some of you coming up for the Randolph Mud Bog on the 5th?  I think Charlie and DMR made it up last year.  I know my dads new ATV Shop is helping to sponsor it and he tells me they are doing a lot of work on the pit.  He has a flyer up at the shop if you need details give him a call.  Flint Hills Powersports 785-539-6500.

There will be lots going on in town and you are only minutes away from the Corp ORV area.  They allow side by sides there as well and you can bet your a$$ there will plenty of mud down at the trails now with all the rain we are having.

I will not be diving in the pit this year on the TRV but will be there so I hope to see some of you there.
