my front diff housing cracked. has this happened to anyone else?

where you on the throttle hard when it happened. maybe the sld slipped and put all that on the front and exploded it. never seen anything like that before..

believe it or not i was cruising down a asphalt road doing about 30. only mod i got is 26in(stock size) tires.

Is the pin that holds the syder gears still in place.? or is that what broke and caused this i have seen that before.

Yup. Seen it quite a few time lately. Its probly either the pin like GWC said or your actuator slammed it in 4wd unexpectedly.

Its aweful muddy to have just been cruising down the road. What was going on before the asphault riding happened.?

Chances are it was hurt before the asphalt cruising and it just let go later.

my friend cracked his. while it was in the shop the owner gave him his personal t-cat and the same thing happend to it. starting to sound like a weak point. guess it cant handle all that power lol.

It usually happens when the spike load dampner slips under stress and the front end is doing all the work and they break.

well i had problems with my front driveshaft is where it all started, and put new u-joint in it and it just never seemed the same after that, always making that ting ting noise. but have heard several thundercats that have had this same problem...

You need to contact your dealer about the new updated front drive shaft. Bigger ujoints,shafts, and output yoke. And definitely need to weld up that SLD.

in going to drop it off to them monday and they are going to do the front diff, and complete front driveshaft. but i need to get a sure fire way to weld up the lsd ....

I busted two front diffs (3.6 & 4.0) and got feed up with the cat.....spider gears let go both times.

i didnt like the visco lock on the outty 800 i had. i like the 4x4 switch and the diff. lock alot better.

That sucks that housing broke, not to hijack your thread, but have yall ever tried the polaris AWD/4x4 system. Works better than any other system i've ever tried. I havent tried suzuki or artic cat personally.

LOL not to be a BUTT , but yeah thats why i sold my sp700 is because of that "Awd" set up. worse thing i every delt with it was not for me at all.

I like the polaris setup...it's not better or worse than the Zuki/Cat setup, just different. I find myself loving the Polaris AWD everytime I hop on my Sportsman, but at the same time, I like the 3x4/4x4 adjustability of my Arctic Cat. I do despise the plastic cages though. I've never had problems with the Hub-Driven setup on my 2001, however...

And yes, there have been a number of us blow front diffs. Most likely it's the pin in the spider gears. I'm starting to think these pins need to be removed/replaced with a stronger piece of metal when REAL HP is applied to them. You should also check your frame mounts. Several have had them crack/break, thus causing the diff to explode. A couple people even blew a second diff before they realized the real problem...

might have rusted as dirty as it is...LOL! Dont you know what purple power is? That bike is nasty. Usually takes years of mud to turn the diffs bronze.

Hope you didn't wipe out when that happened to your front diff.The bike didn't lock up on you did it?

no it didnt lock up it just threw a coupl housing pieces outward.It did keep rolling so i drove it back to the house lol and this morning drove it to my dealerships door step

ok so what i am finding out is this is common for the thundercats. so to all the tcat owners did the factory warranty come fix it, did you have a extended warranty or did you have to pay for it outta pocket? reason i say this is my service manager said it would not be under factory but he will double check and see.....

Mine wasn't near that bad, but it did bust he housing. Twice now. My pins were still welded in place, it just stripped the spider gears and the pieces fell in the bottom of the case. Yours looks like the sld is at fault.

I hate it when the cross pin slides out and destroys the diff like that. That isn't rust, its stained aluminum and if you think purple power is all that you should really try Formula 21, its a step down from Black Maxx(which is about as strong as degreaser/cleaner gets).
