well today on my way to work i passed by the humane society and decided well you know i have been wanting a new puppy i am going to go look around see what they have. well i went in and saw some really good looking lab mixes and a beagle. so i asked the little lady how i would go about adopting a dog. well she said first we would like to screen you and see if your eligible and all then we go from there. i said okay screen away. first question how many animals do you own i said well we have 5 dogs, some rabbits, two ducks, and a yard cat. and she well how much room do you have a said a few acres about an acre fenced in the dogs run around all day and we bring them in then she said well i am sorry you are not eligble it sounds like you would have to many other animals and would not be able to care for another. i said do what no wonder all the poor animals sit here and suffer yall dont let any one take them. i said point blank you would rather this poor animal be put to sleep then me give it a home and she said rules are rules. i just walked out and now i can not sleep because all i can think of is that darn beagle. sorry just needed to vent

your most likely right but its mainly about helping an animal that is most likely put down. i did some research and found out last year they reported taking in over 7000 dogs and only like 1500 were adopted out and another 1000 or so were reunited with there families. satistically speeking those numbers arent good. anyway i am most likely going to find away to get that darn beagle he looked like a great dog

you should have said you just have only 1 or 2 pets..sames rules here at our local humane shelter..anything over 5 pets its a no go....there are some pretty sad faces on those pups when you go in..just breaks your heart knowing they will be put down

yeah most places that I know of, only make you pay to have the pet spayed/nutered which is around $60. Otherwise you can take them right home! I understand her concearn of you already having so many pets, but only if you didnt have room for them, and aparently you have PLENTY of room for 1 more dog. I'm going to agree w/ sending your wife, or a friend to get the dog. If that dont work, go over there head.

beagles are wonderful dogs, when i was growing up we had a mixed beagle, boy did she love the mailman, she was a very smart dog, knew the time everyday that the mailman would come so she would start barking, then she would be sleeping or whatever and when 8:00pm rolled around each night she would get up or stop what she was doing and come over and nudge ur leg to tell u to come feed her, she musta lived about 11 or 12 years

now my girlfriend im with has a dachsund beagle and that is a really good dog, loved to mud ride, loves hunting lizards and rats or whatever he can find....i told my girlfriend if we ever break up im stealing him lol

We have 2 Beagles, and a lab/beagle mix. My daddy beagle is the best dog in the world & a great cat chaser! We should have another Beagle litter here in the next few months! That's mine and my hubbys weakness. I hate to hear that though...I know that's how our animal shelter is here. We take all the surrounding counties animals so it's like overflowing, yet you still have to "qualify" to get a dog...Used to you could just go up there, pay $15, and leave. Now you have to sign your life away to get a stray dog!

Thats pathetic right there. They'd rather put the dog down then let someone have it that wants it. Thats one of those people you just wanna kick in the head!!!

Man if you want the dog, you can find away around it, and good luck to you. Sounds like you really wanted it, and that probably means it will have an awesome home.

You've got to be talkin bout them quacks down on 49. As Lil_sis said, that's where I got my mut a year and a half ago. They did the same thing, had me fill out the little questionair form, then sat down and went over it with me to see if I met their standards to get a dog from them. They act like they are intrusted with the secrets of the country down there. For the most part, the employees are not friendly, rude, arrogant, and dumber than the poo they scoop out the cages. On the other hands the volunteers they have come in are great people. I had to lie to them too, cause at the time I didn't have a fence built, but told them I did. They said they could come out for an inspection to see if the dog had been takin care of..............told them not to bother, cause I don't appriciate trespassers.
