Im trying to get my front left axle off to replace the boot. Anyone know a good way to get them off without a slide hammer.

If the axle won't come out you can take the shaft out of the cup with the cup still in the diff.

I tried the truck and come-along stunt and just ended up with 2 busted CVs. So I just left the inner cups in and repaired both front axles with them in the diff. Not sure what I will do now to replace the bearings.

i used a set of vise grips.  put them on the axle bar where it bevels out just before the boot and it wont slip.  then hit the vise grip with a hammer.

when i had one stuck bad i wraped a chain around the cv cup used a bolt to snug it down with and wraped the other end around a sledge hammer and  used it like a slide hammer. works pretty good on most axles but if they are seized up it wont work nothing will.

keep your diff fluid changed, best thing you can do. also when you do get them out put marine grease on the splines so they wont seize up again.

Yep, works perfect, except I use that short, 3' tree saver strap. Never had one too stuck where that didn't jerk it right out.
