My son has a 400 HO sportsman that is the same body size as the 300 hawkeye. The ONLY way to get the front end off the ground is with a jack. He has made it wheelie in the water while standing on the racks and that was a stretch.

yeah and the so called sportsman400 aka hawkeye 400. makes i think a little more power thne the 300 does. plus you got low range as the 300 only has F, N, R
and is so gutless it couldnt even spin the tires on dirt. but it can get into some places that i thought i couldnt. as my wife has some how got the hawkeye into places i could only sit there i think on how did she do that. and she just tells me i dont know i just kept going untill it got stuck.

if there is some way to improve the performance i like to know every trick. but if its only makes more noise then no thankyou.
as im already searching for alittle bit more grunt from the little 300 so it can pull its on wt even better.

Hmm. I am touching 260 lbs and can get a 300 to stand up.

As far as power, after riding 350 honda ranchers and the Hawkeye my pick is the Eye as far as power goes. Sure it is not the fastest at about 43 to 45 mph top end up I have yet to stall the tires out on one or burn a belt.

And that was with 27 inch maxxis Mudbuggs bolted on and the fender flares held back with a bungi cord to keep them from rubbing.

The 400 is actually larger then 400 CC

If you guys are having power problems with either one of these machines then there is something definatly wrong with them.

If you are looking for more speed then I might suggest getting a different machine. Due to the final gearing and the clutch design these machines are pretty much limited in the speed department.    Heck even with an 800 twin in one they will only go about 50 mph but wheelies are just a blip of the throttle away even at 40 mph.

I can pull the wheels up too, and I can endo it if I want to.  It's a 455cc engine in the 400, and it doesn't have a low, last I checked, but I'm tired today so maybe I'm wrong.
Back to the first poster, I'd love to know what you did to the exhaust though.

yeah thats what im looking for. not really more speed. but some easy performance mods to increase the out put of the little engine that could. lol. the hawkeye is great just needs to be alittle lighter and not break down so much. just the little dum stuff hurts its rep. other then that great little machine.

my son rides his just about everyday and and every weekend with the neigborhood kids and puts his thru 100% pure he!! from the time he starts it up.he doesnt cut it no slack and at least once a week he is draggin home a arctic cat or a canned ham that tried to follow him.knock on wood but they have yet to pull him home because of a breakdown.the only thing we have had a probem out of was the brakes fading the day we brought it home,i blead them and they have since been fine.the bike has almost 1700 miles on it now and is only a year old.he takes extremely good care of it,he washes it after every ride and he changes the oil every 100 miles and cleans the K&N every week and changes the transaxle fluid along with the oil,he changes the front diff oil every other oil change.he is continuosly in the pond, the wetest, muddiest hole he can find.we live beside the pipeline and the powerlines are close by along with the river.i still haven't replaced the brakes and they still look like they are 50% or better, have a new set to go on it when it needs them.so we have had nothing but GOOD experiances with the Hawkeye.we are getting ready to p[ut him a set of 25x9.5 laws on it all around.and then he will get a little braver then know that they pul alot better than the swamp foxes he is currently running.

you do not heed a clutch kit the hawkeye has rollers just buy the proper rollers for your altitude i run from 4000-6000ft & i use the 10 gram rollers most guys running sea level to 200ft use the 12gram rollers the factory rollers are 14 grams.second drill the carb slide & jet it.if you are not good at jetting buy a dynjet kit they do the math for you.hope this helps.

you can go with 4 "high elavation" rollers from your dealer.just space them evenly when you install them.

you can remove two rollers one across from each other. its works with no problems other then that there is no clutch mods you can do to the hawkeye.
for carb jetting from the factory some came very rich other very lean.

you can change the spring in the secondary/torqe driver for an increased stall too.

when u guys are saying wheelies (Rat & Big T), are you talking sitting down ole school style, or that one leg kneeling way some people do it?  because for me to wheelie my wifes hawkeye, I think I'd have to pile a ton of weights on the rear rack and stand on top of it with a couple of reigns attached to the handle bars

half standing up, goose it, and pull back on the handle bars.  Of course, my 325 lbs probably helps a bit.  If I sit far back on the seat I can do it too.
