I recently installed a mild clutch kit from Fixx Powersport that consisted of some rollers and 2 small washers on my 03' Grizzly 660.The installation was pretty straight forward with no problems.I also put on a new Dayco heavy duty belt.I have ridden the quad about 20 miles and i think the belt has exploded in the belt housing.I havent taken it back apart yet but what the heck did i do wrong?It showed no signs that anything was going wrong with the quad.I was doing about 60mph down the rode and then BOOM a loud explosion!!! I lost all all power to the drive wheels and could hear something rattling around in the belt cover.The quad still runs fine but wont move,even in 4wd.What the heck?!?!

OEM belts are the only way to go. Most everyone on here who has had an aftermarket belt, such as Dayco, has found them to be junk.

Either way, I don't think 20 miles is sufficient enough to shred even a Dayco belt, so either the belt was installed backwards, it had a defect in it, or you did some serious belt smoking during that 20 miles.

By the way, where do you live in Ohio?

Strange,because it was a heavy duty HPX Dayco belt.I know i put it on the right way because it had an arrow on it.I guess i'll have to take it back apart to see what the problem is.Thats the only thing i could think it to be though.I had to leave the quad at a buddies house since i had rode it all the way out to his place and i dont have it with me right now.Do you think the clutch kit had something to do with it?Maybe not enough grease?I only used as much grease that came with the kit.It was a zip lock bag that was about half full.I live in a small town about 60 miles above Columbus.

Heavy Duty, Severe Duty, whatever the aftermarket belts say, they don't seem to be able to hold up like the OEM belts do.

I'm not familiar with the Fixx Powersports clutch kits, but I wouldn't say the belt came apart because of clutch setup. It's probably just the junk belt.

Let us know what you find.

I'll probably trailer the quad home tomorrow and start working on it this week sometime.It was the first time i every opened up the clutch/belt assembly.If it is the belt(hopefully) i will buy an OEM one like you said.I'll probably take the clutch kit out of it too regardless to make sure thats not what screwed it up.It didnt make much of a difference anyway.I hope its not as bad as the primarys or the secondarys coming apart but its a possibility.Hey Mud_Dog,i seen the YouTube videos and the one with the red 660 underwater!! That is so SICK!Very impressive!

Does it really make that much difference in belt name brand? I mean the belt completely disentegrated! I could understand a belt wearing out but blowing up just because it wasnt a Yamaha belt? Heck even HighLifter sells the Dayco belt.I got no problem going out and buying the oem belt but i just cant understand why this happend so quickly and the way it did.

the only other thing i can think is there is a problem inside the clutch, more specifiacally the wet clutch, ive never seen one do that but have seen daycos last less than 2 hours and blow the ridges off the bottom

Well this totally sux either way.I had to push my heavy a** quad 1/4 mile until my buddy seen me and had to pull me to his house with his golf cart!! A big Grizzly shown up by a golf cart!! Now thats lame!LOL!

OEM is the only way to go bro. All of the aftermarket stuff is trash. Like what was said above, no matter what words they use to describe it they all fall short in the durability department.

Well then where do i go to get a good deal on an OEM belt? Cheapest i can find is $85.
