most likely with a good tune-up anywhere from 7-10 in town and 12-14 on highway.  depending on what gears are in it.  my old jeep with 44's,nv4500 tranny,4.56 gears, and a built I-6 would get around 15 on the highway but only 6 in town.  i got a heavy foot

I that same engine in my jeep and it gets terrible mpg's.  If you are looking at a jeep...forget about getting decent mpg unless you get a 4-banger.

I have a 304 V-8 in my CJ7 with a four barrel carb and it chugs the gas! From what I've heard and read, the straight 6's weren't much better. To be honest, I don't exactly know what kind of mileage I am getting (but I know it isn't good) because my speedometer only works when it wants to. Another down side is that the fuel tank is so small (15gallons), even if you get decent mileage you will find yourself at the fuel pump quite often. Also, does the Jeep that you're looking at have the Quadratrac transfer case? Meaning...is it full time four wheel drive with the only option being high or low. Or is it selectable four wheel drive where you have the option of 2wd, 4hi, N, 4lo? Many people tend to be happier with the selectable transfer case(the latter of the two that I described) better and it will get you better fuel economy and less wear and tear.
