Status: offline 		I heard the top speed on the new 850 is around 72. Can anyone confirm this rumor???

Status: offline 		my 800 touring with two people would be doing goo to hit 65mph.  the fastest i have had mine 2 up is 62 mph.  i know the can am will run well into the 70's 2 up no sweat.  don't get me wrong guys i am popo through and through.  but it is what it is.  but you can ask either one of them and they would much rather have my ride and handling with their power.  which is what i think the 850 will excell in, power and handling.

Status: online 		Horsepower doesn't translate into top speed.  There is no way to reason through that mechanically.  I can get 67+ out of my 01 SP500HO, and it only has 38.6 hp versus the 54 hp that was just claimed of the 800, which by your reasoning would make the 800 top out around 94mph.  As you can see, top speed is related to final drive gear ratios and rpms.  The sportsman line has never been geared for top speed, nor have the motors been designed in a way that makes them an appropriate choice for someone looking for a fast topend bike.  Polaris has always been extremely fast in the 0-40 range and geared to pull a house. 

I can't wait to see what the 850 brings but won't be disappointed at all if it tops out in the low-mid 70s....

Status: offline 		Faster does not always mean top speed that is two totally different things.  It is hard for me to believe that stock it will be much more than 75.  Now with just a little clutch tweaking I figure it will run to 80 but the aero dynamics of ATV's start to kill them at about 75.
