hey guys i just picked up a highlifter temperature gauge and tried it out at ideal. In about 7 min the bike was running at 205 deg and then the fan kicks in knocking it down to 180 deg before it shut off. i tried this twice as i then let it go back up to 205 deg as the fan kicked in then shut the bike off. So i Then turned the key on but didnt start it and let the bike cool down useing the fan as this method cooled the bike down at twice the speed. as soon as it hit 180 deg i started the bike back up to see if the temperature changes and it didnt, it stayed the same. so for those that think idleing with the fan on cools the bike faster cause of serculation well it does but not nearly as fast as shutting it off and useing just the fan. so now you know how to cool the bike and just not guessing.

tomorrow i will be trail riding and will let you know what the bike runs at with no mods to help cool it down. Then on my next ride i will add some ice cool and see how much that really helps as it says it will nock it down by 40 deg. it's hard to beleave but now the truth will come out soon, i'll keep you guys posted. After that i will wrap my exhaust & see if it nocks it down even more. I'll be trying all the time to see how i can make this run cooler and keep you guys posted. Anyone think running without the thermostate will make a diffrence? cause i will try that aswell.

how did you plumb the gauge into the rad hoses. or do you have a triple flow rad.

so the gauge comes with the hardware. just mount it plumb it. what are the electrical connections on the gauge. they are just for the back light on the gauge right.

ya the gauge comes with the hardware, the electrical connection on the back is ign, ground & lead wire not to mention light of coarse. I'll take a pic of it and try to post it

thats cause it is only cooling the fluid that is in the radiator. if it aint runnin it aint circulating. if it aint circulating, the motor isnt cooling from the fluid.

Wrapping the exhaust won't make the motor run cooler, but the ambient heat that the exhaust gives off will lessen quite a bit.

On my 400, it runs at an average of 205*F  Fan comes on at 210*F and off at 200*F..  these things run hot!!  This is why I think a temp Guage is so important from the factory..  screw the fancy gas guage, and give us a temp guage!!  you will overheat 10 times before running out of gas!!

I'm glad someone is paying attention!

Lips, you need to tune your bike.  With your HMF and Uni you are probably lean at idle building excess heat so idling is making your heat condition worse.
