Treble will work alongside Ellis and crew chief Steve Tartaglia to help develop the new Suzuki Hyabusa engine in-house at DSR. "Now that we have the two riders secured at DSR, Craig will begin testing our new Hayabusa engine as soon as we have it available, which should be shortly after Indy," said Schumacher. "And, with Ellis, Tartaglia and Treble putting their focus on this program, we'll work towards accomplishing some wonderful things with  the new Hayabusa Suzuki engine."

Sounds like Suzuki is working up a new engine for the 'Busa.

For those that don't know, Craig Treble is a pro drag racer for Suzuki, and just made a team change to Don Schumacher Racing.  I met Craig at the motorcycle mechanics school I went to.  He's a good guy and I'll be seeing him in action this weekend at the Indy NHRA U.S. Nationals.

Hopefully they make it a more stable bike for riding, not just a drag strip bike.  I enjoyed riding the one that I "borrowed" but around here it's too ****ed curvy and twisty to really open it up and have some fun.

From reading the posted article it sounds like they are referring to the in-house modifications at DSR done to the Suzuki Hayabusa engine for the purposes of drag racing.  I did not see anything relating to Suzuki developing a new Hayabusa engine (not to say that they won't/aren't).

I read through the article numerous times and after reviewing the PSM rules, I think it's likely for them to use this as R&D for a new engine.  I was thinking the same thing you are but the company I work for has some pretty crude R&D practices.

The teams are supplied, say, an engine block in a pretty raw state and from there they can use their tooling on it to get it where they want.  Using a professional race team is a good practice for testing slightly different configurations.

Time will tell.  I think they are looking to develope something along the lines of "new" to oust the ZX14.
