First off, I tried searching, done the usual.  Long story short, my dad crossed the creek by our house, it was about a foot deep. Rode around for about 15 minutes, crossed the creek again (same spot).  This time it has rose 5ft or so, and washed him and the foreman down the creek (about 1/4 mile).  The quad was fully submerged several times (creek was rising fast!).  it was flipped upside down while floating down the creek.  I drained the gas, changed the oil (after 2 changes it showed no signs of water), changed oil filter, drained the airbox, removed the air filter, replaced spark plug, and let it idle for probably over an hour.  It idles fine, but dies when given gas.  Any ideas?  Anything I missed? Thanks.

I stood it up on the back rack to let water drain out of the exhaust.  I took the spark arrestor out as well. Choke helps, but it still will not let you give it throttle without dying. How do I drain the carb? Im guessing there is just a hose coming out of the bottom, but I haven't looked at it. Thanks.

+1 on getting water out of the carb. Alot of times if it'll run with the choke for a good 10 minutes or so it will eventually start running right.

It sounds like it may have some trash in the carb. Take it apart and clean it real good.  Probably something stuck in the jets.

I am no mechanic, far from it.  I know nothing about working on quads, only changed fluids and wheel bearings.  Can someone try to walk me through getting the carb apart and cleaning it?  I was gone all day today, will try to mess with it tomorrow.  I'm trying to prevent taking it to a shop, I would like to learn how to do this stuff, but noone around to teach me.  Thanks.

Well its not that bad but it takes a little time.  the best thing is to go ahead and pull the carb out instead of trying to rotate and work on it while still attached..

1.  go in and loosen the clamps on both sides (cylinder and airbox)
2.  make sure your hoses are free so you can pull it out.. (bottom drain especially)
3.  unplug your carb heater cable (routes over to harness on the right side frame)
**  you can choose to disconnect throttle cable and choke or do like I have in the
past and pull the carb loose and raise it up, then place a piece of clean lexan plastic
over the frame there and set the carb on it kind of making my own work surface.
Anything clean works fine of course, cardboard etc..
4.  remove the 4 screws in the bottom of the bowl (these are very soft and tend to strip
easily so apply good pressure would a good fitting phillips screw driver to avoid damage.
5.  gently slide the bottom (carb bowl) off and your there..   be careful not to let your float
bounce around too much etc.. they say it can get out of adjustment.  You will see all
your jets right in the bottom and can screw them out one at a time to clean them out.

hope that helps..  good luck

Well, tore into it today, atleast a little.  I took the cap off, tried getting the carb loose, then finally quit when I realized I had no clue what I was doing. I am good at taking it apart, but horrible at getting it back together, so I stopped before I done anything. I pulled the gas line leading into the carb, let it drain for a few seconds. Not sure what happened, but it fixed the issue, atleast for now. It is running great. I will eventually take it to a shop and have it broke down and cleaned, but atleast the quad is up and running. Thanks everyone.

It probably had some trash in the bowl. Hopefully it drained out when you took the line loose.

your problem is water in the carb gas floats on water so all the water stays on the bottom of the carb and thats why it will idle  and die when u give it gas cause ur idle circuit is higher in the cab where there is good clean gas but as soon as u start giving it throttle it starts pulling it from the other jet which are at the bottom of the bowl and where the water is at causing it to die just always any time you sink one unscrew the drain screw and let it drain for bout thirty sec then tighten it back up

You are going to want to flush the oil out more than twice too.  I had a foreman that I sunk a couple times , and with the oil cooler and running through the gears, it took 6 oil changes to get the oil back to normal.
