Okay, there is ONE thing I hate about Yamahas.  The POS bolts.  Anyway, I was installing my new stator last night when I twisted one of the screws off.  The kicker is that I was using a torque wrench set to the appropriate factory recommended torqe setting.  I know this is a stupid question, but I need to ask. I have some stainless hex bolts that are dimensionally the same as the phillips head screws.  Would there be any reason I could not use these in the stator/magneto assembly?  Stupid freakin bolts.

Use away man.
There is no reason in the world why you cannot use whatever bolt you want.
I know exactly what you mean with Yamaha atv's, snowmachines, and power equipment. The bolts they use are absolute garbage. When I worked at Yamaha, I got real good with using a drill, easy-out bolt/screw removers, and a mig welder (I will not explain). The best part is that Yamaha bolts use common threads. This means that almost all the bolts can be replaced with stronger bolts. The screws are the same way.
I hope this answers your question.

Dezz, thanks for the info.  I think about half of the bolts on my Grizzly are now from Lowe's.   Anyway, I could not think of a reason, but you never know.
