Anybody out their had any problems with the fuel filters clogging up? My fuel pump over the last 3 months or so seems to have gotten noisier than normal, but I had no problems with the starting or running of my atv. My pump still cycles on and off like before but I have no fuel at the fuel rail. Has anyone had a fuel pump go bad that still sounds like it functions properly or was it the fuel filter or something else? Help !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Its easy to take the tank out and remove the pump/pickup assembly, change the filter first and if that doesn't help, pull it out and check all the connections. If the pump is toast you can replace it with a fuel pump from a hyundai sonata.

I found the fuel filter and you have to **** near take the front end apart to get to it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just my luck.....so much for a 5 minute job , plus it has (supposed) quick connects to take loose from the fuel lines but you got to have a special tool for that. This is gonna be fun and not sure thats going to fix the starting problem!!

huh????? im not sure where you are getting that you have to take the front end apart and no you dont have to have a special tool for the  quick connects the filter just pops in and out of the little "holder" mounted on the frame..........unless i am missing something that is totally different than on my 06

ya. you can get your bands in there and pop the filter out of the holder then just use a flat screwdriver and pop the tabs off the quick connect and the fuel line will slide right off the filter.

kind of a side note. does anybody know of an automotive filter you can get from the parts store that will work in the efi's. i have searched postes and can not find anything.

Well, my filter is mounted in the center of the atv under the front box down below the ECU on the frame, or atleast thats what I thought I saw. The quick connects, are they like a EFI car that you have to slide a tool in the end to get the lines to release from the filter? My 800 is a 2005. This is the 1st trouble I have had with my atv and it really has me bugged.

So , has your filter clogged and left you stranded or did the pump still make noise and just not pump?

I do belive the polaris fuel filter has a bosch part number on it. Most automotive part stores shoud be able to cross it....

Yes, I removed the cap and put a tire gauge on it and got no reading, then I depressed the shrader valve and still nothing, then I depressed the shrader valve and turned the key on and let the pump cycle and still got no spray ,no drip or anything. I popped the filter out of the holder, but haven't figured out how to actually make the clips release without possibly tearing them up. Do you compress and push the two ends in and up or do you push the wide part in and pull filter?

well, I finally got a chance to go out and remove the fuel filter and it was full of fuel, but when I turn the key on to cycle the fuel pump,....... I still got the noise as if it was pumping but no fuel being pump out of the fuel lines ! What do you think people? Is it the fuel pump or does the ECU  signal the pump to pump, or does the ECU just control the amount of fuel  the injectors spray? Hmmmmm, what do I do ...what do I do ?

your problems is most likely your fuel pump is bad...

also, one of the relays in front controls the power to the injectors and I believe the fuel pump, swap the two relays and see if it works, if not I would say you have a bad fuel pump in your tank....

it would take alot of gunk to plug up your fuel filter, so most likely not the problem...

Can anyone tell me whether or not the fuel pump can still be cycling on and off but not pump fuel? Can u disconnect from regulator to see if it is pumping? If  it is still priming/pumping before the regulator then it must be regulator rather than pump!

my pump wasn,t makin any unusual nioses just cycle as usual but i took off for a ride and it started to die and yes youre filter is in the spot u said ,pulled the front rack off only gave me full access just a little tite quarters the clips i pushed on each side with a screww driver and a little prying and u don,t have to take the clip right off end slides off easy my machine only has 90 hrs and filter was plugged solid  ,sputterd a bit but once the gas was pressured up ,just took a minute ,ran great as for youre pump maybe that will cure it ,don,t know maybe it,s workin hard ....good luck.

some of the early efi polaris models had a problem with the regulator going bad.  and yes the pump can cycle on and off without pumping fuel.  the only way polaris sells it is with the tank as an assembly.  i don't know if it will work but the pump itself looks just like a fuel pump for a 95 chevy pick up.  never took the pump assembly apart to see if you can replace just the pump or the regulator though.

I am having the same problem right now. your pump is BAD. i posted my problem last week. thanks to the guys on here i got a used one. I dont know of a part numnber for the pump but you could probably match it at a auto parts house. you will just need a new hose and clamps. mine was actually crumbling to pieces with rust.
The tank comes off pretty easy. just pull the front box, front plastic and the snorkle for the belt housing.

If anyone knows the year or part number of the sonnata pump please post it. we should also put it in the sticky parts thread.
