Well I got mine welded together Tonite. It took no time. I just Hope it holds now.

I am sure there are many ways, But this is how I did it.

1. Remove the front Diff mount bolt and Loosen the rear  one.
2. Remove the 4 10mm head driveshaft flange bolts. (where they attach to the rear tranny output)
3. Slide the driveshaft out and remove the 3 T40 torx head bolts that hold the nose cone on. Remove it from bike.
4. Remove the snap ring from the SLD shaft. Remove washers and place in order. Careful not to mix them up.
5. Slide the SLD clutch pack out. Now this is important. Make sure nothing moves. If it does get it right before welding it up.
6. Put the clutch pack in a vise and grind a groove about 1/4" wide from the top plate to the bottom. Weld it up and grind so it won't interfere with the splines.
7. Be sure to test fit after each weld.
8. I welded 3 lines in it. I hope this is enough. I did not want to remove too many splines.
9. Reinstall everything and ride wheelies. Be Careful, it will surprise you.

I am loading pics.

I used a mig. Thats all I have. I talked with someone with alot of experience with these and was told to use a tig, cuz you can make the welds much smaller and very strong. I just made a few passes on each one. and ground it clean. I think it will hold. I made several hard runs in low range and it felt very good.

Also this is a bit off topic but how fast can you go with your 4" CATVOS? I think im gunna order one tomorrow but don't want one if i cannot go over 40 MPH for trail riding, and how do you like the performance of it in the mud on the T Cat?

I did it on 3. Equal distances apart. the splines are pretty small, so I did 3, so I didn't lose too many splines.

Mud performance is great.
I ran mine 60 on the speedo, which is alot faster b/c the 30's. And the boots didn't get hot. They were a lil warm, but not bad.

Good deal post should help alot of guys, its a shame they did not set this up so it could be adjusted for when larger tires are used. the SLD is a good thing or idea that AC had but the way they set it up it only seems to work right with stock size tires which just bites.

Mine got to where it would slip in High range riding around the yard. Now if I can just keep the tires from spinning it'll be alright.

The main thing I was worried about was in 4wd the sld slipping and sending all the power to the front diff and.....BOOM!

Thats a great right up Alan, if you buy me a thundercat I will follow your instructions to a T

Really though should be put in one of the sticky topics!!!  (not that people even look in there most the time)

I just got finished with my own little project, I modded the grizzly's exhaust and just fired it up a few minutes ago. It doesnt sound to bad but it is alot louder now    Kristina is going to kill me when she hears it

So all your doing is clamping it down exactly how you pull it out of the hub, grinding and welding a few strips and grinding the welds smooth where it will slide back into the hub?  My guess is that if it's not lined up right when you weld it it won't go back into the hub?

Another option worth looking into is cutting/sleeving the driveshaft and going with a common AC pinion cap.  This might actually be easier for most of you guys....

Its in the rear diff of tcats. It takes less than 1 hr to do this. I can't think of an easier way to "remedy" this. I ride the crap out of mine on 30" sbacks and a 4" lift with the stock 3.1 gears, and I have had no problems since I welded it up.

Hey I got a stupid question, could you use a spike load dampener  on the front drive shaft say to take some of the load of the bevel gear.
The spike load dampener from what I gather is to take the load of the bevel gear, so why not just put it on the front drive shaft, it will still take some of the load off the bevel gear and if it does slip like it is suppose to, it now will be on the front tires not the rear. Just an Idea what da yea think!

I'm sure it could be done, but it replaces the nose cone on the diff, which would cause problems with the actuator.Shoulda been on the front in the beginning imop.
