I used to have a '98 Scrambler 500.... Really fun bike to ride!!!... The only thing I didn't like was the lack of a low range for bigger tires. Finally fixed that by transplanting in a lo/hi trans. Back then, the biggest tires on the market were 27" and there were just a few of them!!. I put a set of Tri-Claws on the back and Bi-Claws on the front.... Gutted the factory muffler, put some AAEN springs and weights in it. I miss that bike!!!..

the lack of low range will cause belt problems with bigger tires i would stay with the same size and if you want mud tires get some mudlite a/t's or some other mild mud tire that is lite weight

Got an 01 500 Scrammy right now with a hi/lo tranny in it and I run 27's on it with no problem at all...25's or 26's in a lite mud tire is all I would go without the low range, there a blast to ride and get ready to be covered in mud when u go   Good bikes!
