well its about time to relocate my radiator, so while im doin that im gonna sell my audio pipe and build a box that mounts on the back rack.  im gonna incorporate a backrest (possibly a seat instead), an internal deep cycle battery, probably 4 6x9s, and 2 6.5s, and maybe even a cooler.  what do yall think?  anyone got any pics of anything of the such?  how well do yall think ill be able to hear it while riding with it behind me and all?

and how long should a good deep cycle battery last?  i know the ones on my boat for the troiling motor have lasted very well.  im just trying to plan whether i want to make a VERY easy way to change the battery, or just seal it up.

how about figerglassing it?  anyone done that?  ive done a fair amount of fiberglass work on boats, and i think it would be purty cool it it was fiberglassed.

now what amp should i run?  can i run everything off the same amp?

You should be able to run all that from one amp if its like 400 wats or so

Its hard to type it out and explain it but Im gonna give it a shot. Take all the speakers of the left side of the box, all the positive wires from thsoe speakers, twist together and crimp a lug on them. Then put that lug on the left + terminal on your amp. Then do the same with the - on the left side. Then swithc over to the right side and do the same. If you decide to put that 10" sub on top I would bridge it to both sides of the amp. Take the + wire from the sub and put it on the left side + terminal on the amp. Then take the - wire from the sub and put it on the right side - termianl on teh amp. That way you will get full power to the sub

bad idea - you take (2) 4ohm speakers and tie them together you now have a 2ohm load on the amp, now you tie the sub on the bridge connections and that puts it down around 1ohm = fried amp.

There are a few companies making 5 channel amps that are designed to power 4 main speakers and one sub. Otherwise, look for a decent 4 channel that will handle running the sub bridged on one set of outputs and put crossover filters in to seperate the frequencies. - Talk to some place like crutchfield about the wiring.

Also, too large of amp won't cool properly if enclosed inside the box.

As for fiberglassing up a box, I highly reccomend just building a frame out of whatever you have the ability to easily build(wood, pvc pipe, ect - welded small metal rods if you have the ability) Then wrap it in fleece and resin that. By using fleece you can strech it around corners and form it however you like, plus it keeps the weight down. With you thinking 4+ speakers, I'd reccomend atleast 2 layers though.  - Also, If you decide to use a sub divide it off so that it's in its own enclosure.

i dont want all the weight on the front rack, and im relocating my radiator as i stated in the original post.

this will have its own deep cycle battery in it and they aint light.

Here is one pic of my system. All sealed up inside with my snorkels run to the top, if you look close you can see the snorkel holes. Why do you want to run such a big battery? I'm running my system with strobes on my original battery. I do plan putting in a secondary battery but it's a small one piggy backed into my main battery.

Heres a shot of the front. I'm running all Memphis Marine speakers, 600watt amp and Clarion Marine head unit. Plus 6 strobes down the front and 2 in the back. I have found that a winch is much harder on a battery than all that together.

Even if you do run a full size deep cycle as an aux battery, why not tie it to your charging system? If you're worried about draining the starting batt while not running, use an isolator between the charge lead and the two batts.  - You're definitely looking at some weight.

BruteMan - how's that Clarion head unit? Will it handle full submersion? Is it just AM/FM or does it have CD?

If you enclose an amp in a box you can buy some 12 volt fans and hook them up in the box so they put cool air on the amp.  as far as 2 batteries a good idea to have is a circuit breaker between the twoto  separate them if there is a problem.  if you wanna bridge speakers you lower the impeadance and certain amps can handle more of a load (ie:1 ohm stable) but the 5 channel amp is a good idea.  bridging makes it louder but there is always a cost.  Another way to squeeze more power out of amps is a line driver.

A line driver is a device that amplifies a signal, such as the low-level signal output from a head unit. Line drivers are made to amplify the line level signal to as much as 10 volts or higher.  Usually, the line driver and receiver are placed as close to the sending signal source and destination as possible, to minimize noise pick up.  RCA cables may pick up noise as it makes its way to the amplifier.  If so they make noise cancellers that are plug-in.  Most head units produce a fairly low output voltage (< 1.5 V), although recently high end head units advertise 4 volt or higher output, and won't usually need a line driver.  The line driver will increase dynamic range in certain cases where excessive noise is masking the lower level signals. However, a line driver will not increase the dynamic range when used in a system with little noise to begin with.  There is some truth to the claim that a line driver will let you play your stereo louder since there are cases where the amplifier still doesn't play at its full potential even when its gain is turned all the way up and the volume on the head unit is maxed out. Adding a line driver here will allow you to turn down the gain on the amp while using a lower volume setting on the head unit.

Hey Jps300...It's a very good head unit for what I use it for. It is pretty well sealed up but eventually I'm sure it's going to crash, I mean you can only dunk something electronic under water so many times before you start having issues. It's am/fm-cd-and auxillary for ipod or mp3 player.

Hey Stumpknocker...I had it custom built by Triangle ATV...It's fiberglass with bedliner sprayed over it. If you want to PM me and I'll give you the lowdown on it.

They're definitely not in the same league as the setup you want to make, but I've been looking at the setup from motorcyclespeakers.net.  They come with brackets and will mount at the back edge of the front rack.  I run a box on my front rack, so I don't have the room for an audiopipe.
