well there has been a ton of questions about how to snorkel a kodiak/grizzly 450. so here it goes: tranny intake: -remove the factory intake snorkel by loosening the allen head clamp on the rubber coupling on the intake side of the tranny. -pull the top of the snorkel down and it should slide out of the hole in the plastics and slide right out. -nest remove the front rack and the black plastic "hood". -once the hood is removed you should see a square "bowl" with a circle in the middle where the stock snorkel came up. cut this bowl out using a dremel tool. -now you can attatch a 45* elbow to the rubber coupling on the intake side of the tranny and point it up. -insert a 10 inch or so piece of pipe into the elbow and attatch another 45* elbow to the top of this pipe and point it forward. now take some flex hose and run it forward so that it is under where the "bowl" used to be. -attatch a 45* elbow to the end of this hose and position it so that the snorkel can come out of it. tranny exhaust: -remove the stock exhaust snorkel snorkel. it should be held on by 4 (i believe) plastic rivets just in front of the tail light and a rubber coupling that is tightened by an allen head hose clamp. -after you remove this bou can insert a 90* elbow into the rubber coupling and tighten it down. it is a snug fit to get the elbow in, but it does fit. turn it so that the open end is pointing to the left side of the bike. -nest take a short (maybe 5 inch) piece of pipe and insert it into the 90* elbow. -then put another 90* elbow on pointing the open end forward. -next take off the left floor board by removing the 6 allen headed bolts and the 2 bolts on the foot peg. -now use white flex spa hose to run up the left side of the engine. between the transmission and the frame. -once in front of the engine take a 45 degree elbow and attatch it to the spa hose with the open end pointing up and a little to the right side of the bike. -now run flex hose up beside where your intake snorkel is ran to. -to get the hose to run to the front you will need to put in a 45* elbow along the way. -now once you get the hose up to the front put a 90* elbow so that the snorkel can attatch here. -now put the hood on and cut out so that 2, 1.5 inch pipes can fit through it. -attatch the 2 pipes and cut to the height that you want them. -now put any type fitting that you like on the top. i personally made a 180* turn by using 2 90* elbows. airbox: -remove the airbox lid and cut off the part that goes "up". i dont really know a great way to describe this, but basically cut off the "hill" on the top of the lid. -now cut a piece of plexiglass that will fit over the hole. -glue this plexi glass to the top of the lid. -for the glue i used 3M 5200 marine sealent. it makes a almost inpenetrable permant bond. -now cut a hole that will allow a male 1.5 inch coupling to fit through in the plexiglass. -insert the male coupling through the bottom of the lid. glue in this fitting. -attatch a 90* elbow to this fitting. and then attatch another 90* elbow to that elbow and make them right next to each other. - make this 180* fitting that you built turn to the right. side of the bike. -now attatch a 45* elbow to the 90* elbow and make it point to the front of the bike. -attatch a pipe to the 45* elbow that will reach up almost to the shock mount. -now attatch a 90* elbow to the end of this pipe and point the open end to the left side of the bike. -next run a piece of flex hose to the left side of where your tranny exhaust came out. put a 90* elbow on the end of this hose and point the open end up. -now the end of the pipe should be under the left side of the hood. -cut a hole in the hood where the vents are so that the snorkel can come out there. -run a piece of pipe through the hood and connect it to the 90* elbow. -now make a piece to put on the top. now you can re install the hood for good and put the rack back on. and reinstall the left floor board. make shure that you glue all the fittings well. i used pvc cement personally. paint your snorkel stacks black, or whatever color you want them and you shoud be done with you snorkels. now you need to extend all the vent lines. and plug the carb drain. there should be 4 or 5 vent lines to extend. i cant remember right now. the only thing left to do is di-electric grease all your electrical connections and your bike should be good and water-proof. as for underwater idling...you can get a HMF pipe and adjust your idle up. to adjust up the idle get on the bike and put it in gear. then adjust the idle screw (located on the left side of the carb, its a thumb adjustable screw with a rubber hose attatched to the back of it. up until the bike starts to move and then back it down just a little. this will keep it low enough to safely shift while allowing you to easily idle under water. if i have left anything out, or you have any questions or need pics then PM me and i will be glad to help.
