It's really going to vary state to state.  Check your local regulations and compare it with what the Bomb had.

In Texas if u put an orange flag on a pole, ride with ur lights on during the day time, and use it for farm use then it is legal.

Funny you asked this question cause i asked at the honda dealership the other day when i was buying my bike and the dealer told me no. In dirtwheels this month they show a street legal rhino. The state i believe it was in was arizona and the ride had to meet certain standards. I think they outta make a street legal sport atv. If a crotch rocket can be legal then something with four wheels should be legal. Maybe redesign one......make it a little heavier or more stable, solid with a bigger motor to back up the weight. i would buy one.

Well here in indiana we are right outside of amish country, so there are lots of buggys.  The kids are like fricken 5 years old when the learn to drive those scares the crap out of people when the drives of the buggy can't even see the road.  Now if they can drive those on the road why not a ATV.  Now right where I am in Indiana, lots of people ride on the road even though its illegal.  Thats my $.02.  Anyway that makes me mad.  Then when you pass a buggy on the road with your ATV they get mad.

You can liscense one in Idaho.  It has to have a headlight, taillight, signaling device (horn), and a mirror.  I have mine liscensed for those rare times I have to ride on paved roads.  They let us ride on dirt roads with just an off road sticker.

Montana is similar to Idaho. we can license ours for the street with just a headlight (hi/lo beam) brake/tail light, electric horn, mirror, rearview mirror, some reflective tape front and rear (on the sides) and a license plate light for the plate. to operate one on the street, a motorcycle endorsement is required. this applies to all roads, and an off-road sticker is needed to travel the atv trails on public land. both license plate and off-road sticker are a one time fee with a permenant sticker, good for as long as you own your atv.

i happily paid all of the registration costs (i already have the MC endorsement) so i could do errands and joy rides around town on nice days. a guy i work with has ridden his five miles to work every day all winter. Burrrr.

In Jacksonville, FL I know I see them every now and then on the side of the road, but they end up getting a ticket.  My brothers friend got a ticket for riding on the side of the road.  Then again it is a busy city.  BUT, in Jamestown, TN. where my grandma lives atvs are street legal.  I think you just have to be the age requirement on the atv.  I drive mine on the road all the time and have even passed a cop or two.  All I do is wave at them and they just wave back.  I do ride with a helmet too so I guess that helps overall too.  I guess it just depends on where your located.

It depends on location, requirements for that location-And really just how willing the local cops are to let it slide. In Florida-You cant make an ATV street legal. But as mentioned, you can buy kits to make your ATV mostly street legal. Something no one mentioned about making them street legal thats a big point-Is that most require you to find a way to mount car or truck tires in place of your ATV tire. Even on your fender it mentions not to operate quads on pavement because it could effect handling-You have to have a legal street tire-for a legal street quad. This varries though. I've been to alot of other islands in the Carribean and Bahamas, where people ride ATV's with tag's all over the place with no other modifications. For instance-The Virgin Islands. Then anything is legal if the cops dont get you for it. My nieghbor rides his ATV to work everyday. I've been going down the road and waved at local deputys, too-In this small town, and out in the country-No one particularly cares.

P.S. Looking at that revolver, it just came to me--You think one day soon, Street-Quads are going to start being so common and well known as motorcyles, that you'll start hearing your girlfriends mom saying "I dont want you going anywhere with him, He rides a 4-wheeler!" Or "I better not ever catch you on the back of that ATV!".?

Don't forget the Peugeot Quark.

http://www.ultimatecarpage.com/frame.php?file=car.php&carnum=2091

"Research into the fuel cell continues at a brisk pace. After the Peugeot Fuel Cell Taxi and the H2O, new developments have lead to the miniaturisation and simplification of this technology, while still providing a practical range. To mark these developments, Peugeot has chosen to create an original concept vehicle to demonstrate this new technology: the Quark.

The Quark is a two-seater, four-wheel drive vehicle that uses the integral working parts to also provide the visual appeal of the vehicle. Each component is stylized to highlight its specific function. The same applies to all parts in contact with the occupants, for example the passenger grab handles, the footboards and the body, which becomes almost an extension of the driver. The Quark chassis is the result of cooperation between stylists and engineers, which, ensures a perfect blend of aesthetic and technical prowess.

Although there is minimal bodywork, the body reveals at a glance that the Quark is a Peugeot vehicle. From the design of the dual LED headlamps and its Lion badge, to the assertive but welcoming front grille, the overall impression is that of a futuristic, but also a realistic vehicle. As on the 307 CC, the rear lights are also equipped with light emitting diodes (LEDs). The front bodywork serves as a windshield to protect the passengers, who also have dedicated storage spaces at their disposal. At the front and at the rear, protective panels similar to the lower front panel supports the number plates, while at the rear, the hydrogen tank is painted red to symbolise its contents.

An electric motor drives each of the four wheels, themselves connected to the chassis by means of triangular wishbones. The 17'' diameter wheels create a real sense of latent power, and emphasize the rotation of the wheel. They are fitted with Michelin tyres with a purposely-round cross-section and an original; ''shell-like'' tread profile to assist in the removal of water.

The Quark combines pure materials such as aluminium and carbon fibre. The bucket seat has a non-slip covering to ensure good lateral support for passengers. To use the Quark, the driver relies on a removable interactive interface, which serves the same purpose as an ignition key and is used in conjunction with an instrument panel. Positioned in its housing, it provides information concerning the traction system and the fuel cell, vehicle speed, satellite navigation, etc… Protected by a small transparent and waterproof cover, it allows the vehicle to be started when in place and immobilises it after removal by the driver, as in the case of an ignition key."

I forget where, but someone was selling a Banshee that was titled in Texas as a street legal dune buggy. He just knew the laws well enough to work his way around it(he was really from another state) and set the bike up per the lawbooks. It no longer had a ATV title either, just a dunebuggy so the title could be transfered to another state. He did a lot of legwork to get this done and he said it would have really been easier to do in his state(which doesnt come to mind right now). It was being sold with a blown motor for $3k just because of the title!

I've heard of street legal artic cats. That are made for some other country.
In Utah they wont let ya and it's stupied. I've contacted the state acouple of times and told them what I tought. But they said no. But who cares I still ride on the roads and cops don't do nothing and I will still make it street legal. I've got big mirrors that I put on the front rack. There is some tires that I'm going to get when I get some money from snow plowing that I wont that are kinda like car tires for your ATV and there made for hard surfaces. I use it mostly around the yard and take stuff to the city park for recycling and take it to get gas. If They can let dirt bikes on the streets why not ATVs and there is 3 wheeled motor bikes also. They say when you straddle a motorized vehicle you cant have more then 2 wheels. Then what about them 3 wheeled motor bikes for crying out loud. It makes no sense. Hay what about them scooters and mopeds. My ATV can go faster then them. That really gets me. If you can have scooters then why not ATVs. That's some of the stuff I told the state. If you own a farm or business you can get a sticker to ride on roads.

I think they really wont have a option of titling these in your state now.  There are a few companies that have been battling with DOT to get  a seperate classification for 4 wheel motorcycles.  I do lmow that there is a Quadricycle coming from BMW and also the one above..

In the next 4 Years there will be a vast change in restrictions on 4 Wheel Quad Style motorcycles.

Like they've said above, it all depends on your location.  Some states allow ATV's to be licensed for the road with almost no changes.  Other states don't allow it no matter how many modifications you make.  Other states would regquire a roll cage, seat belt, airbag, etc.

In most european countries there is the "quadricycle" classification which is for an ATV but it has to have the following:
Blinkers including hazards
horn
mirrors
brake lights
different headlights
european road-rated tires
foot operated 4-wheel brakes
European emissions and sound certs
plus they have to meet different stability and safety requirements.
They also have to be limited below a certain horsepower, like 18 hp.
There are a couple other minor things, but that's most of it.

In 2007 Polaris made 4 models of international ATV's.  The X2 500 was made as a fully lcertified on road quadricycle from Polaris.
The Hawkeye 300, SPMN 500, and SPMN 800 were also made by Polaris to meet most of the requirements of a quadricycle but were not certified as a quadricycle here.  Polaris has a partnership with a distributor in Italy which finishes the conversion and certification to a quadricycle.
The reason that the other three models weren't certified as quadricycles by Polaris was so they could be exported to Europe as a tractor, instead of an ATV.  This allowed much lower import/export fees and tariffs.  The X2, because it is a 2-person vehicle, doesn't qualify as a tractor.

In my county in Indiana, We are allowed on all roads except State Routes and the Highway. $30 for a two year sticker that makes you a legal Beagel. I think your supposed to have insureance but most people don't. My neighbor is a Sheriff and he just wave's even if we are running about 50. They don't get real upset about it here.

In the US, the laws basically say that a 4-wheeled vehicle must have a roll cage, seat belts, and a bunch of other stuff to be licensed for road use.  3-wheeled vehicles don't have the same restrictions which is what allows the trikes to be made.
