Well I hooked up my trailer 2 day & noticed that the right side was not working on that side?  With that said the running lights work on that side but nothing else like the turn sign & the brake light?  I am wondering if it might be the ball on my truck might be rusty?  I have checked all connections & the trailer lights where working (ALL) last time I parked the trailer which was about a 2 months ago?  So do you think it might be the ground on the ball 2 my truck due 2 it being rusty?

My truck pops a fuse now and then. The tail lights and the stop/turn are on separate fuses.  I would check that first. If you have tail lights, you have a good ground.  It could also be the bulb. Most bulbs have separate filaments for brake/blinker and tail lights.

Ok if it is a fuse blown in my truck would'nt cause my truck's right side not 2 work also?  I mean if the fuse was blown on my truck, I would think that it would cause the truck's back light (on the truck) not 2 work 2???  What I am saying is that the right side of my truck is working fine but not the trailer!!!  Not trying 2 be a smart ### or anything just asking a simple question!!!

No, some trucks have a seprate fuse for the trailer stop and turn signal lights, so if something happens and you loose the trailer lights you will still have the truck lights working.

Relax a little bit guy.  Just trying to help.  I don't know what kind of truck you drive but when mine pops a fuse, the truck is fine. The trailer lights will not work but the truck's will.   Mine is a 2001 Toyota Tacoma.

If your left brake and turn signal works, then it isnt a fuse. Both the left and right brake and turn signals work off the same fuse. The park(running lights) are seperate from the turn signal and brake fuse. It is prolly and most likely going to be the bulb.

Check your bulb, the brake and running lights run off different filaments.

Yes the left side works find (turn & brake signal) but again right side is not working!  So what u are saying is that it want be a fuse due 2 this fact!  I just changed both the side bulb & the main bulb about 3-4 months ago but if u think this is the problem I will check!!! What about the rusty ball???  Is there anyway this could be possiable???

Wrong....some trucks have seperate fuses for the left and right side.

I agree with the bulb also, or might be a bad conection on the right side turn/brake light wire on trailer. Alot of trailer bluiders use them crappy blue self splicing wire conecting things (dont dont know what there called) but may want to check that!!!

Excuse me Foulplay,But Im busy,,,,haha.

If the brake/turn signal on your truck is working, It cannot possibly be a fuse. It is your bulb. If you have any lights at all on the trailer then It isnt a ground issue because all of your trailer lights work off of the same ground. Hope this helps.

If it is a Chevy, the left and right sides are fused separately.  I had the same problem on mine - 2 enclosed trailers, 1 flatbed, and the camper all doing the same thing - left brake and blinker, NO running lights, NO right side anything.  I thought it may have been in my plug, but when I took it to a buddy's shop to get tested, he showed me the bad fuses.  Everything works now.

The problem could also be at where the trailer plugs into the truck. Check to see if you are getting power from your trucks plug and then see if you are still getting power after the plug. What's the year, make and model of your truck?

Well I am only lucky enough to drive a 98 Z71 and it doesnt have seperate sides, but regardless, If it is working on the truck, go check the bulb, If the bulb is good, start checking for brakes in the line from the plug back to the light.

The fuses are the easiest, simplest, and most common case so start there first. If you have power there, then check the bulb. If that isn't your problem, then start tracing it back to see where you are loosing power.

LOL, The easiest way is to look at the Blinking signal light on the back of the truck, If it is Blinking Then how could it possibly be a fuse?

What rzrdawg is saying is, if the lights are working on the truck as he stated. Then the fuses are good, regaurdless if has 1, 2 or 10 fuses. The problem has to be in the trailer wiring or bulb. The rust on ball has nothing to do with it as the other lights are getting a ground.

First tell us what kind of truck???? It may or may n ot be the problem. If the trailer is good then it could be the truck. Just because the trucks lights work it dosent mean the trailer will work. I have had several trucks that had different fuses for the trailer wiring.
Super Dutys all have a seperate trailer harness (fused ) under the hood.
My wifes 07 Suburban has  seperate fuses also.
If its a new Dodge then the computer itself will trip and has to be fixed at the dealer. For some reason Dodges engineers intregrated the trip to save a few pennys. There is a huge sticky on Dodge Diesel. org about this being a common issue. I had the dealer re-flash mine up to 20 AMP in an attempt to avoid the problem.
Just an FYI.....

That is incorrect for many newer trucks. I know for a fact late model Fords, Dodges, and Chevrolets have  seperate fuses for trailer lights. Check your owners manual.

Again, you're wrong!! Newer model trucks have seperate fuses for the trailer. Just because your truck lights are working does NOT mean that you are sending power to the trailer. It's part of the towing package. What you're saying is true for your '98 Z-71 but vehicles have progressed since then.

So are you saying that toyota does not have seperate fuses for trailer lights? All the other brands do now, it seems odd that they don't.

So are you saying that toyota does not have seperate fuses for trailer lights? All the other brands do now, it seems odd that they don't.

No one is saying that Toyota's do not have seperate fuses. We are simply saying that most newer model trucks have seperate fuses so the Toyota's most likely do as well.
