Some people have took them out and flushed them real good and soaked them in degreaser to get all the mud out but that only works for a little bit if you are an avid mud rider. After you clean it out you can reinstall it with engine ice or the equivalent, any brand you choose, and this works pretty well also. Most people that ride in the mud a whole lot have relocated it to another place on the machine. Do a search for rad relocation and you should get some tips on how to do that.

It will stay cooler without the thermostat.

There are only a couple things that can be happening.

Is your radiator clean?

Is it full?

Does your fan work?

Is it airlocked and not pumping properly?

What is your temp gauge reading?  I know you have installed a temp gauge on your $10,000 machine right?

Depends on where your reading.  I'm reading out of the radiator and getting about 180 at the hottest.  I should be reading before the radiator, just placed my sending unit on the wrong side.

Pull you rad cap when it's cooled off a little and then crank it back up.  You can see the coolant flowing if everything is working right.  If there is no flow, then you got a problem.

ok i will try thats.  i have my sending unit on the motor itself where the dummy light one went so thats why mine might read a little hotter then yours

no motor should run a steady 240 ... what does water boil at?

my '08 measured at the outlet of thermostat, hottest part, runs between 190-210 on a hot day ...

fan kicks on between 190-200

my fan seems to always be on but as soon as my motor warms up its around 230 or 240.  if i am going down the road and have teh speed up with a good air flow through the radiator it was go down 5-10 degrees but thats about it.  ever since i put it one thats what it says.  when i get home i will def check the air flow.  the only time i have ever had a problem was before i put the gauge on, my dummy light came on at a ride and it over heated and my radiator fluid started coming out of the overflow line.  thats hasnt happen since i put more antifreeze in and the gauge.

99% of the time it's just mud in the radiator and oil cooler, expecially where the two overlap and where the fan shroud covers. Fought this problem for a while, then relocated it and haven't had a problem since.

Hey Bill i thought that too but the past two rides I havent hit any mud its been mostly trail riding.

eyeherrdat there are two temp sensors on a rhino.  one on the radiator down at the bottom that kicks the fan on and the other is on the motors where your radiator line runs into it.  that one is for your dummy light.  as far as putting a gauge to it most people either cut into that big hose and put a tee there or one of the brands makes a electric sender that fits right into the hole where the dummy light sensor is.

I was going to say that even if you haven't ridden in mud the past few times you would be amazed how much gets packed in there over time and eventually it will over heat. That's how mine started, two or three trips after going into some nasty mud it started tripping the dummy light till I couldn't go more than a mile without the light coming on. Glad to hear you got it fixed.

Bill

it's all good man i just didn't want to sound like a DA on here.  i do know that mine has some sort of temp gauge on the radiator to turn the fan on and one on the motor for the dummy lgt to come on.  btw how life going without the pinky?
