Even with an aftermarket rod you will need to run a programmable CDI box. Most CDI boxes add too much timing with a high comp piston, and will cause detonation even on race fuel and will shear a stock rod. Detonation is the number one killer of rhino engines. If you're going to do it do it right and spend the money or you'll be tearing it apart again. The power in these engines is hidden in the head. The port and polish makes a huge difference.
