wantin to rig up a reverse light. is there a way to wire it to where it will only come on when i put it in reverse? if so how do i do it? the only one i have ever seen was a guy that just had a toggle switch to turn it on/off when he needed it

That would be the best way to do it.  Put it on a toggle switch.  If you dont, you will be out riding and go "oh man I wish would have put that light on a toggle switch so I can see"

You can jump a wire from your reverse indicator light to a 12v relay that you can get at any Radio Shack. Mount the relay anywhere you like. Connect a wire at the indicator light or trace it back to the fuse box. Hook it to the switching terminal of the relay. Run a wire from the battery to the 12v supply terminal of the relay ( be sure to add an in-line fuse at the battery side) and then run a wire from the accessory terminal of the relay to the light that you will use to see in reverse and then ground the black wire of the light to the frame or battery. Once you have everything ran and secured run a ground wire to the grounding terminal of the relay.

Be sure to buy a relay that will handle the wattage of the light. Unless you are going with some high powered halogen.. almost any small relay will do. Here is an easy diagram on how to wire a relay if you need it. http://www.r1200gs.info/howto/relay.html

You can also run another 12v wire from the battery to a toggle switch and then to the light so it will stay on even if you aren't in reverse with the switch. Since it will be on the light side of the relay it won't back feed to the indicator light. That way you can have it both ways. I would run the switch through a relay also unless you buy a heavy duty rated toggle switch.

Hope this is helpful.
