I know there is a modification where you don't have to mash the brake pedal to shift into reverse on an Old Kodiak.....WHAT IS IT?

My 99 kodi doesn't have to hit the break to shift into reverse.  I didn't do any override mods.  Did you pull the plunge out on the left brake handle to enable the start in gear function?

There should be a cable that runs from the gear shift mechanism over to the foot pedal ... remove that & you should be good to go.

I thought you needed to disconnect #30, and use a wire tie to make sure it's always pulled in.  My Grizzly 600 just wore out, and I don't need the brake anymore.

The "Reverse Over-ride" is a different mod all together.  That's the mod that removes the reverse rev limiter so you can wind it up in reverse.

So which cable is it?
I'm at work now and can't go out and look at the bike.
I'm sure it'll make more sense looking at the bike.

VT your right...the Grizzly mod overrides the rev limiter,
I just want to be able to shift into reverse without mashing the brake.

It is cable #30 in the diagram above. I simply unscrewed it & removed that entire cable & no more mashing the brake to get into reverse .. I did nothing else.

Or you can wire tie, like I said before.  This just makes the quad think the brake is applied.  When you apply the brake, it pulls the cable, which allows your shifter to go into reverse.  Wire tie it forward, and no more brake is needed.

Thanks for the reply. I'm concerned about trying the wire tie because it has gotten to where you have to mash down harder and harder (really have to stand on it!).
I'm afraid the wire tie wouldn't hold.

I got it done today and it sure was nice not having to stand on the brake to shift into reverse.
Thanks for the help fellas!

Explain what I need to do for that...please.
My 95 Big Bear was done like that and I like having that capability.

I just noticed what you wrote about the start in gear function when
I read back over this thread today.
Sorry.
