What have yall done on yall's bike when you bust the bevel gear.  Mine let go this weekend on a dry, dirt road in 2wd.  I got it back before it bound up, but Im pretty sure its gone.  Right now, Im wondering if I should rebuild the motor with a updated bevel gear, or just cut my losses and find a new motor.  Ive got a lead on a 06 650 V-twin, but Im going to wait until I find some more prices on other stuff.  Im open for any motor 500cc's+.  Im thinking about racing, so the V-twin isn't looking too bad if I can set the belt up right.

i was just reading in the other post where u said it broke.  thats sux a big one.  luckily i the only thing that messed u with me is my fan housing was warped and almost let my fan burn up b/c it couldn't turn.  luckily me and TCAT caught it just in time to save it.

Yea, its sucks.  Im not too mad though.  Im glad it broke in a good, dry, not far from camp, spot.  I figure I cracked it a while back, and it finally let go.  I sat out under the sun for an hour disconnecting the front driveshaft to find out that I had to undo the rear shaft which takes 5 minutes.

while its alot cheaper  to just put in the updated parts unless your case got broke as well.
finding a 500m motor that is good is pretty hard to do. sticky a 650 V twin in it would be even harder. going to a 650H1 would not be bad but the price of a good 650H1 and all the other pars it takes to get it running is alot as well..

Mine let go for no reason when it broke my cases, i was in 2wd and had been all day just trail riding. I think the bearings get weak over time from abuse then fail and let the gears walk on top of one another and pop there done.

Mine blew out at around 40 mile.  I was in four low in a dry pond bottom with 29.5s.  Four bikes with  winches hooked up didn't budge it before the bevel blew.  Once she broke it took a z71 jerking  several times to just start moving it.  I wasn't suprised about the bevel, I was amazed that the belt never slipped and the motor just barely bogged.  I didn't really feel bad because a grizzly 660 was stuck in another spot and couldn't even turn the tires over.  This picture is the first 5 seconds in the whole.

That one is a bit high for me.  Ill pull it out of the frame soon, but hopefully my cases are ok.  How much are just the parts and does anyone have the part numbers of a microfiche?  I tried to find it, but I didnt have much luck.

I really like the way the Orange looks, but I have other things to replace on mine.  If you want to go back with a stock axle on there, I think I have one in my truck toolbox.

All rears 05+ will interchange.  05 fronts will only fit 05s.  06+ will interchange.

So does anyone have an estimated cost on parts?  Im thinking about getting twin for around 1000 and then rebuilding the 500 and selling it.  I still have to check an see if my case cracked, or that my rear seal started leaking a few days before it locked up.

the gears are like $120 bucks each, and i dont remeber what the bearings cost and then you have the other gaskets as well.

Just let me know something Jason.  Id rather deal with you if you want to get rid of your twin since we are fairly local.  I got a lead on one out of LA, but then Id have to get someone to pick it up at a race and bring it back for me.  Whenever you decide how much you want to let it go for or want to work out some kind of deal, let me know.  Im hoping to get it back 100% around Thanksgiving.
