I'm rebuilding my buddy's rear diff on his Grizz 660.  I'm ready to press the new bearings into the diff.  The service manual says to grease the bearings with a soap based lithium grease.  My question is do I pack the bearings like you'd pack wheel bearings?  or just a thin layer to lube the bearings until the gear oil gets circulated through the bearing...I'm under the impression the gear oil lubes the bearings, so I feel if I pack the bearings the gear oil won't get in.....

This is my first diff rebuild so forgive my ignorance, please advise thanks guys......

It's a prelube.  You can pack it right full if you like.  Just the tiniest touch between each of the rollers is all that's needed.  If you can't find an exact match on the grease, (Unless you're quite sure of which binders will wash in the oil and which will not) then prior to installing the crown gear, thoroughly coating the bearing in the same oil that you'll install in the completed assembly will be quite acceptable as well.
