A buddy and myself caught a hog the other day and were going to shoot it in the trap.  A guy who hunts hogs alot told us that we would never catch another hog in that trap again if we killed the hog in the trap.  Any one ever hear this?  We pulled it out before we killed just to be safe.

Next time shoot, re-bait, and return.  They will keep coming.  I've done it too many times to count.

We were told the same thing at one time... said if you shoot 'em in the trap other hogs won't come back because of the blood or something like that...needless to say, we never caught anymore in that trap. But we didn't kill them in the trap, we pulled 'em out...

i was woundering why he piles dirt up in a pile on the trap. ive never seen anyone do that. we build a dome out of sticks and leave an opening for them to reach in and snap.

We use the "6" style trap. It is good for catching multiple hogs but is not effective against the larger, 200lb +, beast that can jump over the panels because there is no top on it. All you need is 3 or 4 heavy duty bull panels and 12 or so T-posts. arrange the panels in a "6" configuration with the curl of the "6"s belly forming a "V" against the other panel and stake it down with the T-post. on the last panel use bolt cutters to clip off the the vertical end wire making the panel have "fingers". Think of how a perch trap is designed, you want the hogs to be able to push their head through the "V" where the fingers will make it less likely they will back out and more likely for them to push on through. We use a rubber bungee cord to help provide the closing force so the last panel must be ever so slighly off the ground where it can open and spring back closed. The fingers also prevent the hogs from being able to open the gate once inside. We attach a half panel on each side of the "bottom" of the 6 as a chute where we back our trailer up if we are gonna take them out alive. Back the trailer up, lay out the wood ramp, attach the chutes to the trailer and open the 6 up to load 'em. Be sure to not put the corn too close to the panels as the hogs will try to root them up from the outside.

My toughts exactly! What do you do just shoot them while theyre stuck in the trap like the big game hunter you are? Very Cruel and Very WEAK! I know now where the anti-hunters get thier ammunition from! I cant wait to see the pics where the guy standing behind the catch doesnt notice that that big cat or coyote is just about done knawing its paw off and waiting for the idiot that set the trap!!

Yep,slip in,.22 behind the ear.Trapping has been going on forever, pretty much in the same form. Some animals can't be removed any other way.Guess you shot an animal that you couldn't recover and have it wander off and die somewhere.Don't be so quick to judge.

Have killed several hogs in the trap and they still come to 'em.  If they are slow to come back spray some dieselon you bait of choice, hogs love diesel.
