Quadmaster 500 advice - 9/2/2008 1:06:43 AM

Hey guys.  I just picked up a 2000 quadmaster 500 auto 3 days ago.  It runs great and all but stock is just no fun.  I have noticed that there is almost no aftermarket for this particular quad.  I would like to get a clutch kit for it and throw on some bigger tires for starters.  I went out with a buddy who has an 08 Can Am 500 and I was getting high centered everywhere and he would just cruise through it all.  I really need more ground clearance.  I also noticed the clutch gets wet very easily and the consequences suck.

I see EPI/HL makes one for the 2002 Vinson.  Some of the parts are interchangeable between the two according to the fiches I have browsed through but I am not sure at all if it will work. Anyone?  It currently has bald 25" TSL's on it and I think with 27" tires it would feel quite sluggish without playing with the clutching.  I am thinking with 28 or 29's I will have to worry about CV's and a huge power loss, but 27's should hopefully be the sweet spot.  Please feel free to tell me I'm wrong if thats the case :P

I am definately thinking snorkeling the quad will be a must along with air filter / jet kit.  Snorkeling looks fun with all the belt drive venting and stuff.  I also cannot seem to find anyone that makes a repair manual for this thing.  I will have to call a dealer tommorow.

Thanks for your time guys and I look forward to some replies.  Open to any and all advice.  I will do my best to get pics up tommorow.

P.S- First post!

Welcome to the site

I dont know much about the clutching on those bikes but a 27 inch OUTLAW is a good tire choice

You will feel a power loss with the 27" tires, but the 500 is a strong motor and it should'nt be enough to hinder your riding. Getting a snork, jet kit, filter, and pipe will prolly make up for the lost power. I dont know much about clutch kits so I'm no help there, sorry.

Thanks alot guys.  I would love to go with a 28" tire but I really think that will be too much extra weight for it.

I am still looking for exhaust for it, than that should be the basics after I get the clutch figured out.

Thanks again!!!!

I have high, low, N, R.  This super low sounds intriguing.

I think I am going to order a suzuki service manual.  I have spent hours searching this forum and others reading up about these.  I have found other people ask about the Vinson clutch kit but to my knowledge no-one has proved it not to work or to work.  I guess someone has to be a pioneer.  Hrmm...

I think you will have the same quad as mine only you have an auto and mine is a manual. There is no super low for these but you should still have no problems with the 28" tires if you can find a clutch kit. I found all the mods for mine on ebay. I also found a service manual on ebay. I can turn my 27s with ease and I am now wishing that I had gone a little bigger.

Also, I just browsed around on the net and found clutch kits from epi and some slip on fmf pipes and uni filters. You should be able to find everything that you need.

TeamMudd- No prob man, that would have been quite interesting though!

lightmud- I have searched high and low and either EPI nor highlifter makes a clutch kit for my 2000 lta500.  They make one for the Vinson from 2002 - up.  Some of the internal parts are the same but I cant say if it will indeed fit.  As for exhaust I have only found two companies that make quadmaster specific exhaust and neither of them are really "performance" pipes.  What I am going to end up doing is most likely getting a Vinson exhaust or quadrunner slip on, I think.

If you have indeed found a clutch kit for this bike please let me know and you will be my new best friend!

As to the service manual I looked all over ebay and messaged sellers that are selling lots of service manuals and none of them are willing to get me one.  I found one on repairmanual.com for like $80.  That might be my best and cheapest bet.

Thanks again.
