Had an 05 500 carb, then went to a 800 efi.  With the efi you are always going to have to trouble shoot some electricals if you are going to be doing some serious water riding.  I wish that I had went with a carb bike because if you "accidentally" went out a little to deep in some water and die out you can pretty much just fish the bike out, drain the carb, airbox and the belt and get back to riding.  Dont get me wrong though my 800 has never let me down when I am water riding and I mean taking it over the headlight pod.

For water stay with the carb.  mine will die in the water when i stand  it up due to the fuel pickup being in the front of the tank.  if you get a efi keep it on full
