Guys, help me out I can't decide if i should get the Brute or Outlander. I got 20-25 buddies who have Brutes and i know the pro's and Cons of them, but I don't know much about the Can Am. Is it durable in hard mud riding like an ole Honda. Is it worth $2000 more than a Brute? Mainly I want to know if it is tough.

I'd would get the Outlander. Actually, I am. I think they are the toughest thing out there besides Honda and Yamaha, I'm really impressed with them. I have a few buddies with Brutes, they are ok but I don't find the fit and finish on them to be acceptable, its little things like that that bug me. Besides, if you get a Can-am you will stick out in the crowd.

I just sold my 08 brute to get me a can am. The brute is a great bike with good power but I think the can am is a better built bike with more power. But I think the brute is better looking but I love the power of the can. But its your choice they are both great bikes.

Brute 750: $7500

Outty 800R: $9200

Can Am Outlander 800R XT comes factory with a 3 year warranty, bumpers, hand guards, aluminum wheels with radial tires, and a 3000# warn winch, and did I mention MORE power.

Add all the extras to that brute and your at $9400 with less power.

Never been impressed at all with the Brute IRS machines. The Prarries / Twin peaks, were top notch in there day, still are compared to a lot stuff out there, the current prarrie has the brute 650 SRA name and brute looking plastic, but we all know its really a prarrie 650 in disguise, still a nice bargan in the high 5k range.

The can-am is in leauge of its own, IMO the best money can buy.

Brutes are great bikes, the best bang for your buck than any other bike out there.  I loved my brute, zero complaints.  I rode the crap out of it and broke 1 axle because of a torn boot.  That was with a 2in lift and 29.5x10's.  You will be happy with either choice.  I prefer the Can-am, they have the best fuel injection system of any manufacturer and the trailing arms are superior to rear a-arms.

Best of luck on your choice, you probably won't get good info on the brute from the can-am guys.

If you just ridng in the Mud the Can-Am is Great. IMO teh Brute is alot better Machine as far as holding up in just everyday trail & mud riding. Thats just what I have seen.

i love my 800, but the new brutes aren't too bad, rode a friends 08,  funny, they both have good power,  get hot easy in the mud, could use 2" lift kits, and better shocks, the new brute is alot more like a 800, than the old brutes. think the outty is alot more comfortable, stable, but like the brutes brakes,
being more independent, front and rear.  you won't be dissapointed with either one.  if i could afford it, would keep my 800, and buy a brute.

Words can't describe them.......

They are and have to be one of the greatest tires ever.  Ride, mud, trail...they do it all with a smooth ride and great control!  So far they have taken what ever I have thrown at them except this

Tha Can-Ams seem to be getting popular, IMO you should go look both machines over and decide which will be best for you. I personally think the Can-Ams are ugly but the sound MEAN with a pipe.

KingquadKingquad01, is your truck a Cummins 12v? I can't really tell from that pic...?

I took an 08 BF 750 for a burn a couple of weeks ago and to me it just felt cheap compared to my 800.  The seat was hard, didn't handle as well, gauges were not as nice, no park in the trans and I really don't like the diff lock lever either.  And as far as power, I could tell right away it didn't have as much as my 800 then we drag raced a couple of times....just as I thought, the 800 beat it easily both times.

I don't know of a neutral forum though. It seems the only places to ask these types of questions are in the specified forums and roughly 85% of the responses will be biased. But there is no way around it if you want to know.

Can Am's are a perfect example of what happens when English people make a machine, not some Asian made tinker toy designed for people that are half the size of English people. You want it all,, buy a Can Am!

I posted this for two reasons. 1. This question is played out way too much.    2. Some of you can am guys may find this useful later on.

Hey Butch,
I have owned and/or ridden all of the big bores.  I just traded in a 2007 BF 750 for an Outlander 800 XT.  I had a few bolt on mods to my Brute Force (Terracross Tires, Dyna, Clutch Machined).  I had 250 miles on my Brute, I currently have 200 miles on my Outlander.  For what it is worth here is my assessment:

1.  Fit and Finish goes to the Kawasaki.  Not by a huge margin, but the Kawasaki gets the nod.
2.  Power (mid/top end).  No Surprises here.  The Can AM just hauls.  That said from a Torque Perspective (with the minor Mods I had I felt the BF was better.
3.  Comfort......for me the Can Am by quite a margin.  It has a lower center of gravity and the best seat in the business.  That said this comes at a price.  The ground clearance is a few inches less than Can Am Claims.  The brute is superior here.
4.  Visco Lock vs Locking Differential.  This one is like debating religion.... I personally liked the brutes system much better.
5.  Handling....The Can AM Handles much better.  This was a major selling point for me (and the power).  The only thing (for me) that kind of disappointed me about the brute was the handling.
6.  Durability.  I personally can't make the call here as I only put 200 miles give or take on each bike.  The guys I ride with have both BF's and Can Am's.  I really think that given the same conditions (mud, water, type of driving, snow..etc), the Brute would hold up much better over the long haul.  I feel the overall engineering of the Brute is better.  Kawasaki laid the foundation and initially set the bar with respect for V-Twin Powered Quads.  I can't imagine they are going to stay at the back of pack very long.  They are due for a refresh.

Just my .02........I am very happy with my Can Am.  Nice thing about most of the big bores, you really can't make a bad choice.

the brute and canam, have similar power.  the biggest difference is comfort on a long ride, stability and handling. these things cost extra, if they even can be bought.  never heard of anyone putting a canam seat on a brute.  not saying a brute isn't good, they are. depends on your wallet and type of riding.

i own both bikes and i dont think the brutes and can ams have similar power. thats why i bought my can am was because i was sick of my buddy out running me all the time. bottom end power is the closest by any margin in the power band of the bikes mid and top there is no room for discussion.

I think the rear suspension on the Can Am is much better than the BF.  I looked at both but found my main riding buddy has had good luck with his BF and knows a lot about them (which keeps me from having to look up a bunch of stuff when the mods start coming) so i went with the BF.  Besides that he would have got jealous of the CanAm and I would have had to hear him pick at any little flaw in my fourwheeler all the time.

Oh yeah, and I got the 08 750I BF for $7,300 with a winch and 5 year warranty out the door!!  The BF has a half **** decent front bumper and I'd plan to change the tires on either for mud riding (what I primarily do) so the only thing the XT would have on me is the rear bumper really....  Besides the rear suspension and little bit more power.

Next go around I'll try the CanAm though.
