Right now, I put the Outlander up there as the best quad money can buy today , but opinions will verry for many valid reasons.

We own both. Just finished serviceing them and I am again amazed at some of the differences. Start at the top. The racks on the Outlander are at least 50% bigger than the Grizz. Same with the axles. Tie rods are pretty close but again the Outlanders are bigger. The plastics are way easier to remove on the Outlander. We won't even go into talking about the engines. Rotax rocks. The TTI rear suspension is superior to a-arms. The Grizz has stiffer springs but the shocks go away with hard riding. The power steering is good for my wife and reduces kickback but you lose all 'feel' at speed. Initial take off is less 'jerky' on the Grizz with the wet clutch setup. I love the combined brakes on  the Outlander. Both the Grizz and my brothers King Quad are scary to me when riding hard unless you modulate the front yourself, other wise the quad likes to try to swap ends. Not so with the Outlander, just smooth control. Don't tell my wife, as she likes her 'cute little quad', but I wouldn't trade two Grizzlys for my Outlander 800.

Is there any truth to the week frame issues and the belt housings leaking?

Yes, but with skid plates and some RTV sealant, you can rest assured you will never encounter any problems.

First of all, you can not compare an 800 to a Grizz 700 when it comes to power...the 650 is a little better match but will still whip a Grizz in any type of power or speed comparison.   Also if you are a trail rider the Outlader handles waaay better, the Grizz feels tippy almost like riding in a canoe.

I have had three Outties and none of the belt covers have leaked, and they changed the seal for '08 so I don't think it's an issue.  And no the frame is not weak...it is exposed....put a set of Richochets on it and drive it like you stole it.

Just got back from the mountains and a friend was driving a Grizz  so here is a couple more things I like better about the Outlander.  The single brake is much better for fast trail riding because it is so simple, one lever to pull.  I like the Visco Lok better than the manual locker because it's always on, but I guess this is a personal preference.  The engine braking is also much better on the Outlander...not even close actually, in the mountains you really get to see it in action.

Oh ya, the V-twin sounds much better!!
