1) Locate the oil pressure regulator plug screw directly under the magneto cover
2) Remove the oil pressure regulator plug screw
3) Install a shim between the plug screw and the regulator housing
4) Reinstall and tighten the plug screw to the proper torque

The shim looks like a washer. I am not sure what the exact thickness is. Its a little thicker then a normal washer.

The new R's have higher oil pressure, so I figured I needed it too.......plus I have a turbo to lubricate!

The oil pressure regulator is only for limiting the pressure to around 65 psi I think. Shimming the spring just allows it to have a higher pressure to limit to. Mine at least, doesn't hold more than 40 psi when hot, and shimming the relief valve doesn't do a thing, as it isn't up to 65 psi yet. It will help oil pressure when it's cold though, but I would be careful with it, because it might go too high when the oil is cold, and strip those plastic gears. I wonder if that's the reason it's there in the first place. (to keep from stripping the gears when really cold)

You are probably checking your pressure at idle. Normal oil pressure is 26psi at 1250rpm's and 61psi at 6000rpm's.
The shim for the regulator is one of the changes can am made for the 800r, and all the factory can am boys have always run the shim. Its obviously there for a reason.

Yes 26 is normal, mine just holds around 5-10psi at idle, around 40 at 9500, with 50wt. oil in it. (I'm talking hot) The manual says it supposed to start working at 65psi. On mine, it doesn't do anything because it never gets to 65 anyway, I guess the turbo bleeds off too much, I don't know. How much pressure does yours hold?

I have never checked mine and I don't run but 5w-30 so it may be less than yours. Unless your oil feed line is alot bigger than mine.

Check it, when I first checked mine, it scared me to death! This motor has been together the longest, and has made the most power so far, so I guess it's ok. I have a restrictor in the turbo line too, actually the bolt that goes into the turbo has a real small hole in it, to help keep so much oil out of the turbo, smokes less like this. Did you restrict your oil any?

No I didn't restrict it but the line I used is rather small. The hole in the fitting is less than 1/8 inch.
